So, I've been very diligent these past few weeks since I joined LHCF. I've started to really take care of my hair and as such I've incorporated vitamins into my regimen. Now, I read all the comments about biotin that I could find...the breakouts etc, but I was just NOT prepared for what I see when I look into my mirror:crying3:. My face, neck and chest are literally covered in tiny pimples many of which are starting to turn white. My forehead is really in a mess. And, it itches :perplexed. I look as though I have measles! I was out today and I felt sooo ugly that I just couldn't take it. I know now that my skin means more to me than my hair, for sure. At least I've got control over my hair. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of these things? I've been drinking water like mad, it's really killing me...talk about a miss....

PS- are there any dermatologists out there?

First off, WELCOME!!!! I'm not a dermatologist, but it may be that you started your biotin on a dose that was too high initially. It is probably wise to start off with lower dosage like 1mg and then progressively work your way up, that's how I did it anyway and I haven't had any problems with breakouts etc. I also make sure that I drink at least 60oz of water a day, but I usually strive for about 80oz. HTH

Hi, thanks for your reply. I did take a low dosage...I started with 1mg for 2 weeks and then I upped it to 2 for like 2 days and then this whole thing happened. I drink 2L or more of water a day as well, so I don't know what happened. I do know that I'll never take it again....

Maybe it just didn't work with your body chemistry. I know I was scared too when I first started taking it so I took like 1mg about 3 months and i only recently started on the 5mg so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though

Aww, I am so sorry you broke out like that. I have never take biotin, but did plan too. Now with your results, I just figure that its not worth it. I thank you for sharing your complications and I do hope you figure a way to rid yourself of the acne. It will clear up, soon.:yep:

Try not to take biotin solo. I would suggest a hair vitamin from gnc which is formulated with biotin, msm, and other goodies at an effective dose which will cause minumum to no problems.

You mean like the Ultra Nourish Hair? I was planning on taking it. I'll give myself a break and then start in a month or two. Thanks !

I'm no dermatologist..but I have been using proativ for about 2 months now, and it has worked like magic. even during my cycle when I usually breakout, I have no breakouts. My skin has honestly become much clearer, and evened out quite a bit. Its so soft and the daily wear and tear of sun, oil and dirt, dont really affect my face as bad.

I agree. I take biotin with a Super B complex and have not had any breakouts. I think I read that here somewhere, to take it with a b-complex to prevent breakouts and of course drink alot of water. Good Luck!!

I am so sorry to hear this...I would personally stop taking the biotin period until my face cleared up!!! Then I might incorporate B-50 complex or something that has biotin in it but I would need my face to clear up first....

Hey first off sorry you had that issue. Now, I think it needs to be said that when you start any supplement like that (Biotin, MSM, etc) and you hadn't been before it will send your body into detox mode That means it will try to get the bad stuff out...thus the pimples. Usually they stop after a while and then you are Aok. I took Biotin off and on for yrs with no real problem but I know when I started with the MSM I had the nastiest bumps ever. Someone here suggested that you up your dosage slow for minimal adverse reactions...look at it this way: you know its working to detox your body and the benefits will be right behind it! HTH

I agree. GNC's UltraNourishHair is a good vitamin that has 600mcg per tab. (They suggest that you should take 2, but I only take one because the MSM causes me headaches.) However, I also take additional biotin(3000mcg), and I have very few breakouts. As others have said, I think a gradual increase in your biotin intake will cut down on your breakouts. I had to play with the amount I took initially, too. Also, make sure you drink a lot of water, as you already know. HTH! :grinwink:
