...change one's hair texture?

I've been searching through a couple of threads as well as the archives to see but I've been getting mixed responses. I wouldn't want to change my texture into anything other than what it is so I don't want to take the risk taking these vitamins if really do change one's texture.

So, what do you guys think?

Biotin hasn't changed mine of yet...been taking 5,000mg for the past couple of months...

No. I can't think of any way that they could. I think people are doing other things with their hair, in terms of manipulation and maintenance, so they might notice that their hair feels different, not in texture. Healthier, less dry, etc. But then they mistakenly attribute any changes in hair condition to msn or biotin changing their texture.

I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin in January 27, which happened to be the day of my last relaxer. I got a touch up today and it was obvious that I not only had at least half an inch of new growth, my was much more coarse and coily than usual. I have never experienced that before.

I take MSM & biotin. The MSM has loosened my texture. I'm 33 weeks post so it helps me with the detangling process. I know it's the MSM & not the biotin because I started the biotin months before the MSM. Once I started MSM it took about 5-6 weeks to see a change in texture.

HTH

MSM definitely loosened my curls.
Biotin hasn't altered my texture at all. It only makes my hair stronger...that's it.
ETA: Biotin does make my hair grow in thicker. Usually when I take higher than my normal amount for weeks at a time.

I have heard msn causing the hair that is growing in to be noticeably looser.

I'm not sure if the looser hair that has grown in will revert upon disuse, though.

OP biotin has not hcnaged my texture MSM has.
This is what I wanted to know as well. I made a thread about this and there were many views but no answers. I take MSM and am transitioning. I notice my NG is a lot looser and softer than normal. I wonder when i stop will it revert or will i have 2 textures. MSM growth and my reg. texture post MSM. :perplexed

I have a mixture of 4a/b and after I started taking MSM definitely noticed more 4a kinky coily hair. Its not a dramatic change but my hair definitely now curls up into tiny spirals more. I also now have more defined 3c curls at my nape whereas before they were fuzzy 4a/3c if that makes sense.

Post on this I made in another thread:

I've been taking MSM internally for a little over 10 weeks now. I stopped conditioning my hair as frequently as before and began using Qhemet products which contain MSM.

Anyway I'm just checking in to say that my hair definitely feels softer/smoother to the touch and is a little more manageable. It hasn't changed my 4b texture, my strands just have a more silken feel to them, it's nice.

Since I made this post I do feel like my strands have a little most elasticity to them and my individual shed hairs do look a little more wavy/curly than they used to, but overall my texture is still certainly 4b rather than what I understand 4a to be, so not a major change.

Now this is what I've noticed in the past when using biotin. It was a very noticeable difference in the coarseness of my hair texture when I went in for a touchup, and it happened pretty quickly, def under 8 wks. I don't remember what brand I was taking, this was years ago.
I do know that I've taken MSM on several occassions, heaping amounts too  and I've never experienced softer or looser hair texture at all. As a matter of fact, none of the hair vitamins I've taken have given those results.

Biotin did not change the texture of my hair. But MSM has made my new growth looser and softer. Its alot easier to detangle and stretch my relaxers longer. When I stop taking it my new growth is back to normal. I really dont believe its taken me from a 4a to 3c though.

Wow, I thought I was going a lil coocoo. I read about people saying the same. But it wasn't until I started taking MSM, I realized it was true. I take a blend of Glucosamine and MSM twice a day with 1500mg of each in every tablet. So that's 3000mg of MSM a day. I haven't noticed softer new growth but my curls are definitely waaay looser, especially in the crown area. I am past 5 months post relaxer and I've noticed through my shed hairs that my new growth textures are actually loose big curls instead of the usual tight kinks. However, it is not a uniform thing, many parts of my hair have the tight kinks still.

Hmm...so it seems that for some, MSM changed their texture but there are still other responses that challenge those claims :/

I've been using MSM and biotin for years. The biotin increased growth of hair and nails (by speed), and the MSM cut down on the shedding drastically. MSM did and does loosen my hair texture (not as tightly coiled). I used each individually at first, so I know what each of them does to my hair and body.

I never noticed any change when I was taking them. I personally think that if MSM changes texture it's because your hair was lacking sulphur/sulfur so now that you are getting lots of it, your hair is coming to its own.

I noticed a change in my texture with msm, but it could also be the excess water I've been drinking nourishment and moisture from the inside.

I think this is the case too. MSM definitely loosened my curl pattern while I was taking it (reverted back when I stopped taking it). There was a noticeable change in my new growth around my edges (where I could see it) and then when my mom was re-touching my hair she was like "what in the world is going on with your hair!!....is it actually changing texture???" She was a bit dumbfounded cause she didn't know such a thing was possible.

I've been taking Biotin for about a month and took it in the past. I would notice single strands of hair being THICK. Almost like pubic hair. The texture on those strands would be looser also.

I've been taking msm and biotin. Didn't know why, but my 4a/b is definitely more coarser. Kept wondering what happened. To make matters worse, I've been using protein more than usual. Maybe I need a lot more moisture now and maybe msm added a lot of much needed sulfur to my strands.

I take 11,000mcg of Biotin, a hair multi with an extra 3,000mcg of Biotin, and 3,000mg of MSM and there's been no change whatsoever in my texture.

it changed mine and i can tell very easily. I think it changes it by filling in missing components within the hair. for example, i have this strange 3C hair at my nape, it grows in curly and blends easily with my relaxer. well since taking the MSM, I wouldn't even know it had grown at all, if not for the length changing. all of my hair types have losened considerably from taking MSM, i've only recently added biotin, so i can't say for sure if it'll do anything to my texture.

yep, MSM changed the texture of my hair. It's becoming thicker, yet softer. I doubt if you're going to hear of anyone who has 4b hair saying that since they've been taking MSM, that they now have 3a hair. The change is pretty much a looser curl pattern - but nothing dramatic.

I agree with everyone else. MSM makes the hair "healthier", and improves the texture/feel.

MSM has definitely loosened my texture- enough so that I can get the new growth straight without too much hassle, anyway.

Nope. If your hair feels a little different because you've been taking a vitamin or supplement or using a particular conditioning treatment that just means your hair was not in optimal shape and the internal or external conditioning is working to get it in shape. These things aren't natural texturizers.

This is a GREAT! observation and explanation. I think that this is the key. . healthy hair is a different texture from unhealthy hair.
