I need a shoulder to cry on

Good morning ladies.
I have to post this cause it's weighing on my mind.

If any of you read Pooh's post the other day about knots on the end of natural hair, you know that I responded to it.

I explained that my knots were driving me crazy and I wanted my ends trimmed to combat the problem.

So I went in on Tuesday to get my hair done.
I asked for a wash, "trim", and style.
I explained that my fro was uneven, that I had terrible splits and knots, and that my hair looked lopsided when I picked it out since it was different lengths all over. My stylist said "ok."

Well, after my shampoo and scalp treatment, my stylist sat me in the chair, and proceeded to call over the shop owner, another stylist, to "help her" trim my hair.(I didn't know my stylist wasn't gonna do my trim. She never said she was not going to do it herself.)

Well, the owner proceeded to trim my hair, starting on the right side, and worked her way over to the left.
Now, I'm watching her in the mirror that's across the room, and I trusted this lady. She's been in business a long time, I've seen her work on other heads, so I wasn't sweating it.

She seemed to be doing fine, initially.
But when she got to the left side of my head, in the back, she seemed to have a problem.
She went over it twice, saying that she always has trouble cutting on the left side and she needed to change directions to get it right......red flag.

After my "trim", my stylist braided the front of my hair, and twisted it in the back, clamped it and put me under the dryer for 15 mins.

When I came out, she undid the twists in the back and finger combed it so I could wear my puff out.
She gave me a mirror, I looked at it, and the front was cute; I loved it.
Due to shrinkage, it looked even across the back, so I thought it was all good.

But when I got home that night, upon further inspection I noticed that one section of my left side in the rear was extremely short!

I mean, in that one section, this woman HACKED into my hair. It's about
2 inches now, although I walked in there with about 4 1/2 in that area.
And it's not as full, either, she somehow thinned out.
I used to dig into it, and play with it, now it feels thin and pitiful.

I am furious!!!!!!!!
I mean, if you don't know what you're doing just say so!
And if you can't trim, don't try it on my head!

Two days have gone by and I can't stop crying inside.

I keep looking at it, touching it, pulling on it, trying to stretch it out....
I can't believe that I have been growing my hair out for almost a year, and she jacked me up like that.

Now my right side, which was my shorter, thinner side, is longer and fuller than the left.
I am sick.

Never again.

I should have left it like it was.........

I'm sorry that happened to you. Don't worry despite the myths, your hair will grow back. Peace and lots of hair blessings! (oh, and here's a shoulder to cry on;) .)

im really sorry this happened to you. but iwant to say that i think knots are kind of inevitable with naturla hair. i was natural for about 4 years and they were always there. so dont stress about them too much.

Yeah I feel for you dk *hugs* I don't trust anyone to trim my hair at all, we need to look at methods of prevention from now on. We need to find ways to prevent the need for a trim in the first place because this can't happen again. We all know hair grows back but I can't imagine how I'd feel if I lost half of my hair in one spot because of some stupid stylist.

You're just going to have to be patient whilst it grows back and focus on taking good care of it so it wot happen again.

im sorry this happened to you! have u thought about going in there and showing them the hack job they did and demanding your money back. thats total crap that they would even have someone in there that has trouble cutting one side! hang in there it will be back in no time :)

Thanks, ladies, for your understanding and you kind words.

I've told this story a millions times, telling family and friends, showing

them my hack job.

They're all like "I can't really tell unless you stretch it out, it looks good..."

I'm looking at them like "Are y'all ok? You can't see this?"

Oh well, they don't understand my hair goals, so they just don't get it.

But thank you all for being there for me when I needed you.

I'm trying to get over it now.

Be blessed,
dk

DK,
I guess we both went to the same hairdresser, the same thing happened to me in April, 1st she underproceesed my hair ( which I later liked), and just like you I had been growing my hair for over two years, She relaxed it, and said " Girl you got some hair", she was supposed to trim it, when she started to roll it when she got to the back all she could do was" BRUSH IT DOWN, she was unable to put rollers in it, I was like What is she doing? Then I realized she cut it ALL OFF...all she did was make me even more determined to take care of my own hair, and to learn every thing I could from the ladies on this board. Thanks LHCF you ladies rock! It has only been 8 weeks, and the back of my hair is in the middle of my neck, so do not worry, you can and WILL grow it back.

Oh here's a shoulder to cry on:( don't worry its gonna grow back, try and learn to self trim it works get a mirror and practice, make sure and call that lady and tell her what she did, she can't grow your hair back but she must know!, also invest in a denman brush this brush has helped me trmendously, I always get knots but with the denman its easy to detangle just spray some afro detangler and take your dear time work from the ends and go slow use a big teeth comb together with the denman you would be surprise hth!

I'm so sorry, I feel your hurt. I too am experiencing more knots the longer my hair gets. I think I have to comb through more often. Now that summer is here I will wash and comb through every other day.

God bless

It will be back in no time.

;)

(((dkbeauti))), I can so identify with your pain. Had an experience not so unlike yours in March. While my hair is still even, I lost 5+ inches when I didn't ask for it. I went in to learn how to style natural hair (coz after years of wearing braids, then twists, my hair was longer than I could handle. Well, she said I needed a trim...and I trusted her because I really wanted healthy hair. But I didn't expect her to chop off so much. I didn't panic initially coz I was told she was a guru with natural hair so trusted that I'd be pleased with the end result And I figured if I could learn some styling methods, I'd be OK. Wrong. The finger twirls which looked ugly and scary to me didn't look any better on day two. That's when it hit me that I'd sacrificed my hair for nothing, and boy didn't the fury explode! So this is where I was after washing my hair and braiding it to stretch it a li'l.

But I promise you dk, it gets better. As soon as you find ways to style it that make YOU feel better, you'll be able to move on from how you feel now. Since in your case you probably need sth to disguise the difference in length till it's at a length where you're comfy evening it up, how about a pony puff? Or you could just continue to pat so it's even. There's nothing wrong with a small puff. Heck, if I didn't braid my hair so it'd stretch before wearing a puff, I'd look the way babies look when they are wearing a band or ribbon on their head. (See?)

Just wanted to add that I think I don't see knots because I don't wear my hair out much, and also I trim often. When I had my hair in twists, I'd put them all up in a pony and then trim 1/4 inch each one till all were done. I don't know if that's what one needs to do, but it is true that knots are just one of the things naturals have to deal with, at least type 4. (http://www.pg.com/science/haircare/hair_twh_76.htm)

Im so sorry this happened to you. :( That stylist was totally irresponsible for giving you such a botched hair cut!!!

I know itll grow back soon though! *hugs*

Oh man :( I know this doesn't mean much but know that your hair will grow back. Are you able to duplicate what they did and get it back to how it looked when you left the shop?

Ladies, y'all are so on point, bless you!

Let's see:
I don't wanna drive the 20+ miles back out there just to show her.
I'll take a picture and show it to her later, when I get up the energy.

But I am still digusted.
Since spring of 2005 I have been pampering my hair like crazy, you know, living the LHCF lifestyle.

I did the BC all by myself on August 31st of 2006 with nine months worth of new growth, which left me with more hair than I have right now!!!!

Since that time, it had grown so much, had gotten so full, which really meant alot to me because y'all know I have suffered from alopecia in the crown. Even that was finally filling in. (I'm glad it's braided in the top, because I really don't think I could handle seeing that area right now.)

I have kept it twisted since last fall, rarely wearing it out.
What's depressing me is I have been waiting for the summer time to put my hair on display.
Which is another reason why I wanted those balls and knots gone, they weren't cute. I figured a professional was needed to make it look better than my "at home" job.

I had planned to wear my puff out in the back, tie a colorful scarf around my head, throw on some fly shades, and look cute!
But I can't do that now:
That stylist stole my sexy!:(
(I'm being silly, don't pay me no attention!)

But to answer someone's question, I can duplicate the look they gave me at the salon by banding my hair to stretch it out in the back, which is what I have been doing all week.
That's the only way I will go out in public.

Oh yes you can. Getchaself a puff of the size you had planned to wear and rock that do. The Cozy puff found at www.wowwigs.com is not very big and so you can pull it off w/o it looking obvious that it isn't yours. You can add a sheer net over it if you need to make it smaller. Don't let this setback ruin your plans; with a li'l imagination, you can still live your dream. *smooches*

Nonie,
Thanks girl, I know you always got my back!:)

I don't know why I didn't think of using an afro puff.
I have one stored away in my cabinet somewhere, well actually two.

But as of right now, I would have a hard time trying to pull my hair together to make a ponytail to attach the puff onto.

Maybe in the weeks to come, when I regain some length, this will indeed be my salvation!

Thanks for reminding me that I have options for cuteness!;)

blessings,
dk
