last night, i washed my hair as usual (well, maybe not as usual, since i switch up a lot :look:). i'd let the conditioner sit on my hair for about three hours (on the phone :look:) and then rinsed it out. i toweled off all the excess water and when i went back to my room, remembered that i had a whole bottle of JBCO that i barely touched. i'd always wanted to try it for my hair, so i grabbed some and proceeded to run it through my hair. now, that stuff was thick and hard to spread, so i know i was a little heavy handed with it. i followed up with some CHI SI, combed it all through, and then pulled on a scarf over my damp hair and went to sleep.

oh, my goodness.

i woke up this morning, pulled off my scarf and i had waves! now, i know it wasn't the scarf because i'd slept with damp hair before and never had waves like this! my new growth (i'm about 6 wks post) was so soft and supple that i can't stop touching it. even the relaxed parts had waves and my whole head is shiny and moisturized. :lick:

my hair has never felt this moisturized before and has never been this shiny. i love castor oil!

Oh I love castor oil too. But it IS a bit hard to apply so I just add it to conditioners and use it that way. I've never tried it the way you've suggested. But sounds like a good idea! I need a lot of help for new growth - I would just like it to be SOFT. I'm not asking for much you know! Maybe I'll try this. Thanks Robot!

and i've never done it the way you suggested. next time, i'll add it to a conditioner. :yep: thanks! i hope you like it when you try it the other way.

Me too! It works well for my thick hair. I've never tried the way you did though. I might have to before I retouch. I'm 16 weeks post this week so it's as good a time as any to try...

that sounds like a lot of new growth! i hope it works for you. :yep: i'm thinking stretching for as long as i can stand, to get to actually see my natural texture. i hope castor oil can help me along the way.

Me too! Castor oil is the only thing that will keep my hair moisturized! And i too can testify to the waves, lol, my head looked like a ocean last week. It's great at laying down my edges, and i'm a 4a who hasn't had a perm in a year and a half! Also what i have found, castor oil= no more split ends. I love it!

wow! that is amazing. are you transitioning? would you say the castor oil helped to soften the texture/make it more manageable? i'm not sure of my own texture, so i'm stretching to discover it. :yep: but if CO can help keep the NG so soft, i may be able to stretch longer than i ever have before. i'm going to try and find a way to use it consistently.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE castor oil! It's the number one oil in my book.

I've found that castor oil keeps my ends in great shape, even when I wear a puff/wash-n-go every day for weeks. When I use castor oil consistently I don't get single strand knots, split ends, and tangled ends and I'm a 4a/b natural.

i was just noticing that my ends are looking abnormally good. normally, they get really frizzed up at the ends and today they're behaving! this stuff really is amazing!

i wonder if i should keep ordering JBCO (which is dark, dark brown) or switch to the kind in the tall plastic bottle (is yellow)? would there be any real difference?

castor oil is an awesome oil. It is also a humectant so it draws moisture which is why people find it to be very moisturizing.

Does anyone else get velcro ends whenever using castor oil??? I love the shine and the thickness it gave my hair but whenever I washed my hair my ends would stick together and become very tangles. I did a process of elimination, by dusting my ends, changing my products and finally figured out castor oil was the culprit. Thanks for any suggestion.

I've had my eye on JBCO for a while now, but the description of the scent has been a turn off for me....
I don't want it interfering with my products that smell good.

how were you using it? to seal, or in a conditioner?

I was using it to seal in my moisturizer for a while in spite of the tangling when I washed my hair because it really made my hair look and feel thicker. Before I finally gave it I tried it a couple of times in my deep conditioner and the tangles were worst than before. I have since given up henna just because I am tired of the red color of my hair with the orange grey strands and I now air dry which is proving to help my hair have the appearance and feel of thicker hair.

it doesn't really smell like anything to me. at least, not enough for me to mind or or overpower anything else. my hair did smell strong this morning, though (i could smell it on my pillow) but it wasn't bad.

i wonder what the problem could be. everything's not for everyone; maybe your hair just doesn't like it. maybe try applying it really lightly just on your edges and nape for a bit of extra moisture?

it is thick, i can see how it might cause tangling. maybe separate your hair into sections and apply a bit like that? and detangle with a wide toothed comb as you go along?

Me too, especially on my thin edges. It works wonders to soften new growth, and using just a tiny bit to rollerset will make your hair lovely! Pic in siggy is a castor oil rollerset from last year that I wish I could duplicate!!

Y'all weren't lyin about the castor oil. I decided to try it out on my rollerset tonight and my hair came out smoother and shinier than it's been since my relaxer back in September! I think I've found my new love! :yep:

Yea castor oil has really helped me manage my new growth by keeping it soft and making it easier to comb. When it's dry i can literally hear my hair snapping when i detangle. I have definitely retained alot of length  I have been transitioning but i will be relaxing (BOOO, i know, lol) this friday because an internship i just got (yay). I think because it's so formal and corporate i may need to relax. But anyways, i i hope you continue to like your results!!! CO is a staple for me, relaxed, transitioning, or natural, it's a keeper.

When I was natural I swore by castor oil for the center portion of my hair. It was always dry in comparison to others. So I just started sealing the leave in with castor oil. It made a huge difference. I beleive I read castor oil is a humectant oil and draws in moisture. I am not sure this is true but I know it keeps my hair soft and moist unlike many other oils.

prose princess, your hair is blingin'! it looks so soft to the touch.

& glam, congrats on your intern ship! i hope all goes well for you. :yep:
