scarf method causes frizz?

does the scarf method cause frizz for anyone?when i slick my hair back and leave it alone i get deep shiny defined waves. but when i use a scarf my waves are flat,dull and frizzy. this only happened when i use a gel to slick my hair down though. does this happen to anyone else?

No and i have also nevere used gel.

After moisturizing I use a small amount of either JBCO or coconut oil over my hair before I tie on the scarf. It's always soft, smooth and with a sheen. No frizz, though.
