I'm trying to adjust my regimen now that I henna. My strands are definitely stronger, so much so that I feel like I have a moisture/protein imbalance. I'm wondering if I continue to henna , should I cut out ALL protein treatments and just load up on moisturizers? Any and all input is appreciated. I want to minimize as much trial and error as possible. Thanks!

I would - esp. if you plan on henna'ing regularily. I over henna'd and my hair felt JUST like hair feels when it's over protiened - super strong, brittle, and not very elastic. Swearing off of henna for a while and loading up on conditioner has been very, very good for my hair.

In general though, I would suggest just keeping an eye on your hair - if it's feeling a little stiff/a little strong/a little inelastic - cut down on/cut out the protien.....

I did the strand test on both wet and dry hair and I could barely get it to stretch and when it finally broke it was more like a *snap* if you can understand what I'm trying to say. I love that my hair is so strong and I want to henna regularly but I need to figure out how to adjust my regimen accordingly.

Does henna make your hair black or reddish? What do you mix together to get it jet black not blue black?

When I did the henna by itself my hair turned a redish color. Then after the henna i mixed indigo and water together and slathered it on. My hair came out jet black but it kind of had some red under tones if that makes since.

If you plan on using henna on a regular basis you might not have to but Sareca I believe said that she over did it with aveda dr conditioner and a protien treatment fixed, not a henna treatment. Since I have hennaed I have used duo tex without a problem. I did use the thickest conditoners I could find for a couple of weeks after my first treatment though. I will prob. still use strong protien right after I relax.

*Bumping*

So i just want to be clear. So it IS okay to use a protein treatment (like the Aphogee) with Henna, but not on a regular basis....? I usually Aphogee every 9-10 weeks. I plan to Henna every three weeks. Just wanna make sure im not overdoing it.....
