I have lost this battle...

ZZ before you go to the salon, buy your own fresh sharp professional scissors to take with you. Dull scissors will only give you ragged ends and you will end up right back in the chair.

I think its the weather, personally I wouldnt go for a cut. Stop the breakage first, then cut when things are in order. Otherwise your still going to be breaking. Are you wrapping your hair? I have found my hair to get snapped by wrapping, i dont do it anymore.

I totally understand. I have been battling breakage for a while, I had to keep trimming and ended up not retaining much length. I still don't know what it is but I just wanted to offer some moral support. I gave my hair a break for a while by wearing half wigs and that seemed to help.

ZZ, I understand. The past few shampoos and combouts have me really angry, sore scalp and all. I am at 8 months into my post relaxer transisition and seems as though everything is just falling apart! Beaucoup hairs in my comb, tangles and glued together hair. I thought for a hot second of relaxing or Big chopping then thought better of it; I want naturally curly hair for good...ORS carrot cream has soothed my nerves.

Thankfully the tangle are not too bad; as long as I detangle once a week. I can't go longer than that without detangling or I run into problems with "matting" right in the middle or my head...

I'm no expert or anything. But have you tried the strand test to see what your hair needs?

Also when I was combating breakage, I used molasses which stopped my breakage right away.

Good luck with the trim!

I haven't done a strand test in a long time, I admit. I'll have to check into the molasses :yep:

ZZ I don't think you need to hack your hair off, please stay away from the scissors a minute...

Have you tried some intensive deep conditioning session on dry hair plus heat?

In my heart I feel you can nurse your hair back to health and then later on have a small trim if you still feel the need. How do your ends look exactly? Sunlight is best to examine individual strands for splits.

All of my recent deep conditioning has been via steam treatments. I'm open to DCing on dry hair though.

As far as how my ends look...I just did a quick check and it's apparent that there are a good number of split ends. For some of my ends (but not many), there are 2 and 3 splits on the same one hair. Upon looking closer, some of my ends have a teeny tiny split that is starting to form at the very end of the hair. :nono: Maybe I will baggy my ends until my hair appointment.

ZZ I swear its this Georgia weather because my hair is doing the same thing. Last week I had hair EVERYWHERE! On my car seats, clothes, floor and found a strand in my food. Two years ago I cut my hair around this time of the year due to the excessive shedding and mostly breakage. After the cut I STILL had breakage! I was so hurt! Well I learned my lesson this time I am going with protective styling until the spring.

I got a good trim two weeks ago and it seems as though the breakage got worse. This cold weather does havoc on my hair. :nono:

I am sorry to hear that happened to you. I know that has got to be a frustrating thing having cut your hair and then to STILL have experienced breakage afterwards...that is what I am trying to avoid.

Hang in there....I'm sure others have experienced similar and may have some recommendations as to things that help retain hair during this time of the year when it is colder/dryer...

Don't fret everything will be ok... I have been going thru the same thing :wallbash:. Cut the ends and it will grow back healthy.. That's how I'm loooking at it, I am still mad/disappointed but I'm just keeping my hair bunned up until the meantime...

ZZ you gonna quit playing with that scary arse brush in your avi.....i think we found the problem.

Lol...girl that paddle brush has been with me for yearssss (well, not the same EXACT one....I replace it a couple of times year). I've been using that kind of brush to detangle ever since I reached shoulder length status...so I figured that maybe that wasn't the culprit since I've always been using it?

What do you suggest using instead? The last 2 weeks I detangled I used a wide tooth comb instead of the paddle brush, and it seemed to work okay. Maybe I'll continue to use that and see if it makes any difference...?

girl I feel ya. That is how i felt today watching the lil hairs come out and onto the sink just from me brushing. I can't wait to get a trim and get my hair even and these ends looking right. I just can't afford a trim right now....ugh. HUGS sorry about your hair day I def understand

Have you tried JOICO deep conditioner along with moroccan miracle oil. I have been treating a client once a week alternating between the protien and the hydrating conditioner.

JOICO Makes a protein deep conditioner and a moisterizer deep conditioner,
I alternate the two once a week and use Moroccan oil as a leave in conditioner

Hey Z,
Sorry to hear about this issue but YOU cannot fall my dear, too many people are hanging on ta ya!!!
Anyway, you must have been doing something different. You can't be doing the EXACT same things you've been doing since SL. For example (not suggesting that this is it) didn't you start adding SAA to your DC's? So it may be something as lil' as that.

Remember the brush you suggested to me, similar to the one in you avatar? Well I did get it and it's scary but it did the job. However, I won't use it too often. While I don't consider the Denman brush a 'brush' as in boar bristle and so I don't apply the same rules of not brushing the hair too frequently or EVER to it, maybe it's time to revisit this.

I'll be joining your trim soon though. I'll be doing a self deep trim towards the end of DEC. My damage ends leaves me with nothing more than "lil' brown hairs e'rywhere..."

yeah the paddle brushes can be pretty rough, I agree it might be a part of the problem if not THE culprit

Z, girl that's a bummer.

Aside from that scary looking brush, have you checked your protein/moisture balance? I had to do this recently and ever since my hair has acting like it had some sense...

The title of your thread really scared me! You are one of natural idols and for a minute I was thinking you chopped off your hair or something.......O.K. I only read a few lines of you post (to see that you DIDN'T chop off your hair), so I will go back and finish reading it now......

Whewwww!
