...against breakage :ohwell:

I just vented about it by posting a blog. Long story short, I have been battling with breakage for a minute now. But when I pressed my hair on Saturday, the number of little hairs all over the sink was quite alarming to me. I don't wanna stay in denial about needing a trim...actually I think I need a cut :perplexed:ohwell: at this point.

I'm not even that bummed about having to trim (cut) it cuz I'm sooo looking forward to my hair looking nice again. My ends are so raggedy today I'm thinking about washing my hair just so I can pull it back into my "staple bun" and not be bothered by these busted looking ends of mine! My hair is lookin sooo UNEVEN right about now. And I have NEVER been one to get the itch to grab the scissors but right now I wanna just whack it off FOR REAL. I just pulled my hair back into a pony and put a huge roller on the end of it to keep from looking at these ends...I made an appointment for 12/18. It seems soooo far away.

Maybe I SHOULD just go wash it so I don't have to look at it being like this...?

Ok, random vent over. *whew* I just had to get that out my system. My hair is lookin busted today yall :nono:

woosaa! its going to be alright girl. as you can see, your hair will grow and it will be better than ever. as your siggy used to tell me all the time, patience is a virtue

I know this has got to be a hard thing to deal with. Do you know what went wrong?

Nope. That is the most frustrating part. It's like I was doing the same things with my hair that got me to where I'm at....and then, all of a sudden, those things didn't work anymore and breakage slowly snuck up on me.

I'm so sorry your hair isn't acting right; it always looks so beautiful in your pics. I hope you're able to solve this breakage problem soon.

Thank you.

I sure hope it does. I'm trying to exercise patience right now by staying away from those scissors :nono:

Thanks ;)

Judging by all the hairs that I lost on Saturday, I think I'm gonna need a cut. So the only thing that's scary is thinking I could come out with shorter hair and STILL have breakage again, since I never did quite figure out what was causing it in the first place, ya know?

IA your hair is so pretty. It's got to be frustrating to have a setback like this. I'm at a loss for words .... either way cut or no cut seems so frustrating to go through.

I won't hazard a guess as to fixing the problem because I'm basically recovering from a similar set back. It took me forever to figure it out.

But this is a good place to vent. Being patient is so hard :(

Awww .... I cant even imagine your hair lookin busted....Your hair is so beautiful...You will feel better after your trim...Im coming up time for a trim too....

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about your breakage issues. As soon as I saw your thread, I had to jump in here. I can't believe this has been going on for so long. Your hair always looks so beautiful. You're one of my hair idols. Well, I hope it just a matter of a little trim to nip this in the bud. Did you check to see if its a moisture/protein balance issue? Well good luck to you and keep that beautiful hair of yours growing strong!

Aww I'm sorry to hear that. You'll get that breakage at bay in no time. I bet you won't even have to trim that much.

Have you tried JOICO deep conditioner along with moroccan miracle oil. I have been treating a client once a week alternating between the protien and the hydrating conditioner.

Didn't you get your hair cut recently? Most times, it's just not as bad as we think. Trim and be done with. Maybe just give yourself a break for a while (your trusted buns) and revisit in a month or two.

I was going to ask the same. Do you think your hair's protein/moisture balance may be off?

ZZ, I understand. The past few shampoos and combouts have me really angry, sore scalp and all. I am at 8 months into my post relaxer transisition and seems as though everything is just falling apart! Beaucoup hairs in my comb, tangles and glued together hair. I thought for a hot second of relaxing or Big chopping then thought better of it; I want naturally curly hair for good...ORS carrot cream has soothed my nerves.

I'm no expert or anything. But have you tried the strand test to see what your hair needs?

Also when I was combating breakage, I used molasses which stopped my breakage right away.

Good luck with the trim!

ZZ I don't think you need to hack your hair off, please stay away from the scissors a minute...

Have you tried some intensive deep conditioning session on dry hair plus heat?

In my heart I feel you can nurse your hair back to health and then later on have a small trim if you still feel the need. How do your ends look exactly? Sunlight is best to examine individual strands for splits.

ZZ I swear its this Georgia weather because my hair is doing the same thing. Last week I had hair EVERYWHERE! On my car seats, clothes, floor and found a strand in my food. Two years ago I cut my hair around this time of the year due to the excessive shedding and mostly breakage. After the cut I STILL had breakage! I was so hurt! Well I learned my lesson this time I am going with protective styling until the spring.

I got a good trim two weeks ago and it seems as though the breakage got worse. This cold weather does havoc on my hair. :nono:

aww, don't feel discouraged. i had one of those days last week. i've been rocking curly styles, and for some reason, felt the need to blow dry and flat iron my hair. all it did was expose how raggedy my ends were :nono: i was THIIIIIS close (millimiter) from calling the hair cuttery and getting a blunt cut back up to shoulder.

for me, it helps to keep my ends hidden all the time. i'm not straightening again for months. sure, i'm not natural (yet), but i feel your pain. it'll get better over time :yep:

I feel for you because you have battled this for awhile. IMHO since you have used the same products and regi for awhile, maybe making some changes to your products, trying other PS or even the baggy method may help your hair.

I got a trim back in April; she cut off about an inch at that time...

Well, I am not sure if it's a matter of protein/moisture balance at this point or not. I have been rotating between moisturizing treatments and protein treatments and have been doing steam treatments weekly for the past 5 weeks...so I'm kinda thinking maybe I need a "fresh start" with a really good trim or cut at this point.

I'll really get to see how bad it is once the stylist presses my hair because she always gets it straighter than I can.

Sorry to hear about your breakage issues. Could it be the change in temperature? Have you tried putting extra moisturizer on your ends? I am not familiar with your routine, but as others have mentioned, maybe a slight adjustment could help.

I would clarify, do a hard core protein treatment (Aphoghee), DC (humectress), flat iron/press it out really good and then determine how much of a trim I needed. Don't go hacking it off out of frustration you know, you may only need a small trim/cut.

Last yr I tried only using light protein treatments btwn my moisturizing DC and it only caused me more harm, I will never leave a hard core treatment out of my regimen again, nor skip out on my 1/4 trims every 4 months.

Also- if you decide to cut some of it off- maybe just do a few more frequent dustings/trims over the winter because like others have said you might be able to find a cure in the meantime so you won't lose as much hair.

Hang in there!
