And I am so very proud of myself.

I never thought I could actually pull this off, not only cause my arms get tired easily but also because of the issues dealing with parting evenly, etc. I am a big advocate of taking charge of your own hair care and this was one of the 2 things I wanted to be able to do myself. (The other is relaxing. I've been doing it for other people for so long I figure why cant I do it for myself?) I want to be able to say Im going to the salon, not because I HAVE to but because I WANT to.

The braids arent perfect or as good as if I'd had went to my usual braid girl but then again, I dont do this for a living. Even still they came out pretty good. OF COURSE I took some pics so you guys can let me know what you think.

Laela, go to the Self-Done Braids album. No password needed there.

Miss Divine!!!! What a great job!!! You sure it's a first? Your partings are so neat, which is more than can be said for mine. The only place I think the partings are neat on my head and close to even is towards the front...which is when I sought the help of a mirror in order to make tidy where I plan on making partings during styling. You go gurl!
A very impressive job indeed! (Where's the clapping, cheering, pompom-shakin' emoticon/graemlin when you need it?)

Congratulations!! I'm very proud. They look good. How long did it take? Did you take a lot of breaks?

Take care,

Ebony

Thank you Nonie!

lol Yes girl that was the very first time I've tried doing my own head. I taught myself how to braid ages ago but never actually tried doing a whole head (mine or anyone elses). Im just glad they came out well.

As for the parts, thats why I wont do anyone elses head. Im somewhat of a perfectionist and if it takes me 20 minutes to make a part Im satisfied with then thats what Im going to do. Most people wont have patience for that.

<font color="brown">Your braids look great! You really deserve praises for taking on such a tedious job. The hard work certainly paid off.

Thank all of you ladies so much for your kind words.

EbonyEyes-I really dont know how long it took because I did it over a time span of about 3 days. (couple of hours a day)

They look so good! You did an exxcellent job. If that was your first time you will be amazing after you done it a few more times.

They look great!

What hair did you use and how long to do plan on having them in?

I have the same questions...also did you use a video or did someone show you how to do them? Thanks!

yeah girl, you did an excellent job.. Your parts are extremely straight...but Good job.. they look good. You should be proud.

Divine, Your braids look great. Very neatly parted, Wow! I know you are proud of youself. I am proud of you too.

I know that doing your owns braids is a long hard job. I recently did my own braids and it took me 3 1/2 days. I wish I could have made mine the same size as yours but because of shorter areas in the back I decided to make them small.

What type of hair did you use? How long did it take? Did you split it up over a couple of days or did you just bulldoze through? How long are you going to keep them in? What part of your head did you find most challenging? Sorry about so many questions. It is just so nice to see someone elses self braiding results!

YOU GO GIRL!

LET'S CELEBRATE THIS IS A BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT AND YOU HAVE JUST SAVED TONS OF $$$$!

Girl for your first go you did an excellent job. Congratulations

The more you achieve the less dependant you become of stylists and paying heaps of money to do the same job better yourself for nothing.

Thanks again for the kind words ladies! Its good to know that I didnt just think they looked good cause I did 'em!

To answer some questions.....

Nina_deF, sweetcocoa, &amp; dontspeakdefeat- I actually used two different tyes of hair. I always use toyakalon but this time I also bought some kanekalon (only cause I was broke and it was cheaper
wink.gif
). Its the type that curls into a C at the bottom. So I used both as I went along.

Nina &amp; dontspeakdefeat- Im only leaving them in about 6 weeks. Then Im taking them out and will be doing my self relaxer. Yes sisters, Im on a take charge rampage!

sweetcocoa, ms_jennifer, &amp; LondonDiva- I wouldnt have believed this was my first time either. If I'd have known they would have came out this well, I'd have been doing them myself years ago! I just hope I dont turn out to be one of those people that cant get it to look the same the second time around!

Oh and no sweetcocoa, I've never actually seen a braid video. I taught myself from watching other people do them. I think I want one though so I can perfect the craft.

dontspeakdefeat- you said it! I think cause I spread it out over a 3 day time span, it really didnt feel all that bad. You may notice though that I did do them bigger in the back then in the front. I think thats cause I thought it was going to be harder then it was but as I progressed, I realized it wasnt all that hard.

melodee-Girl if you stayed in Miami....

Sry if I overlooked anyones questions. Ask again and I'll be sure to answer it!

Thanks again ladies for the encouragment.

Oh I completely forgot to mention... Ya'll see those nails in the center pic? Thats another reason I didnt think the braids would come out good. And NO I was not cutting them cause those arent tips those are my own nails that Im growing out with my hair so.....(minus my thumb which I've been munching on

)

Girl your braids are really nice...i have been getting my hair braided for yrs and i no i can not sit that long and do my own..but kudos to you...i know you are happy due to the money you saved...2 months ago i spent $140 on hair for my braids and $100 to do them..so you def saved...you go ;o)

I'm sure I missed this on another post, but how do you keep the ends from coming undone without burning them? My neice does mine and I want that look next time.
