My first goal is shoulder length by May 2007. And looking at my picture, I'm not sure if I will make it at all. I am taking MSM and high protein diet. And I am aiming to retain as much length as possible.

Can I make it in 3 months? What do you think?

Hmmm, well u are not THAT far away. However, i would have to say that it really depends on your growth rate. Most folks get around .5" per month..... some of us get less, and some more. So if you are in the average range, then u can expect to gain about 1.5" between now and May. Now the question is, will you be able to RETAIN all that length?

I would make certain that, in addition to the high protein/MSM in ure diet, you start to seriously use PROTECTIVE styling (if you dont already). Also, try to cut back on COMBING.... im talking like, comb 1-2x per week at the most. Between the bunning, not combing, and the protein/MSM..... you should be good to go. My protective styles of choice are buns, braids, hair falls.... in that order! Low manipulation is really the name of the game, in terms of maximizing and retaining growth!

I personally am an advocate of MTG, and i would try that too if i were u! (Or maybe Naturallady's Boundless Tresses that i've heard so many great things about?) Not sure if you are open to the idea of topical growth aids, because i know there are split opinions across the board about the effectiveness of them. Thats entirely up to you though. :)

Thank you for your help.

I wouldn't be opposed to using topical growth aids, but I have to be careful of my scalp, because it's super sensitive.

I am a recent re-relaxer... So I know I have my work cut out for me. I think perhaps, I shouldn't relax until May anyway, I just want to make it to shoulder length to prove that my hair hasn't given up on retaining length.

I know it grows quickly, LOL, (black roots, red ends) but I don't know about retention.

You don't look that far away to me either. If you don't make it for whatever reason allow yourself a backup date (like 4th of July), k?

In my opinion you are not that far from shoulder- you have to take into consideration that your hair is wet and curly/not straighten in the picture. Do you drink a lot of water, take biotin, and try MTG or a supplement with high sulphur!

you will be there in no time

So when I reach shoulder length is it 'stretched', dry, or wet, flat ironed?

Or whichever comes first for me to get to 'shoulder' length?

You're not faraway, but to get to solid shoulder length (most strands at that level), I don't know. I think your longest part in the back could make it to that line, especially if you pulled that part straight to measure it. You might be 1 1/2 to 2 inches away from that line for your longest lengths, but the sides look more like 3- 6 inches from the line; this is what is going to take the most time. I agree with the backup date though; that way, you won't put too much pressure on yourself, and that would give the other strands time to lengthen. BTW, your hair looks pretty in the curly picture.

I like to give myself goal dates that are not to soon---just in case ur growth rate slows, problems come up like breakage etc...

Also--it all depends on what ur def. of shoulder lenght is and how much of ur hair to be at that point (ex, just the back?)

If u go by the example of shoulder length given by Brownie--I think u could reach that by 12/07 if u keep doin what ur doin. (i usually set my goals by the year or 6 months)

I think you can if you get about an inch a month but I don't know you're growth rate. I am in the same boat as you. my hair is about that length and I want SL too. I am aiming for SL by the end of this year or maybe this time next year because my hair grows really slow, like 1/4 inch a month. I plan on upping the moisture, eating healthier, and weekly deep conditioning.

I think I may have to change my date... I was a little bit too optimistic.

:look:

So I say maybe 6 months or 8 months from now... *crossing fingers*

Sometimes its just best to enjoy the ride instead of rushing to the finish line.

I agree. I think that the length you are going for is a little below shoulder length. I went from where you are to a 2 ins lower than that in about 6 months. I did some serious protective styles, didnt show any hair. I wasnt the nicest to my hair. I think you can hit it by July. I want to be apl by June, but i think that may be a little optomistic too....
I am like the fullness of my hair, and the health. i am still constantly measuring length but, i can get over that too.....
Just think about all the good things you can do at your current length
