I recently purchased a flat iron, the FHI 1" with variable settings. I was going to purchase a maxiglide, but when I read that they can be bulky I changed my mind.

Sistaslick did such a good campaign for the FHI...lol...that I decided to by that instead.

My hair has always been pressed with a hot comb (by my mom), and this is the first time that I did my hair myself! It might have taken 4 hours...but I did it! In time, maybe I can do it faster.

Oh, another thing, my hair is not permed, so this was another reason why I took so long to purchase a flat iron...it seems that everyone on here that uses a flat iron, is permed or relaxed (is that the same thing, because I really don't know..lol)

Enjoy!

Hopefully the pictures are attached.

Beautiful head of hair you have there! And permed and relaxed are the same thing. 'Perm' just refers to the fact that relaxing hair is permanent and can't be undone by washing or applying another chemical. The only way to get rid of a perm is to cut out/off the permed part. I hope I explained that clearly.

Again, beautiful hair!

Hey girl! You're right, you can only get better with time! And to me, You already had a great first session!   Great job! Interestingly enough, the first FHI rave I'd ever heard was from a natural haired lady on one of the hair boards! I am so glad you like it girl!

YLQ is right on the perms-- especially on forums like these, we use permed and relaxed interchangeably for anything that straightens. On other forums geared more toward Caucasian/European folks a perm is usually meant to be the "curly perm or permanent wave," which like relaxing is also a permanent process, but just does the opposite and goes from straight to curly.

FHI do or die :sekret: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

How did u do it? When I was natural, my hair wouldn't get strait 4 nothing! That FHI iron must be something!

Your hair look nice.

There is a difference btwn the two, a perm is used to indicate permanent waving w/either an alkaline or acid balanced solution, which maked hair curly. A relaxer permanently rearranges the basic structure of curly hair to straight.

Thanks girls!

Ya know, for a while I thought my hair would have to drop out badly for me to get good at pressing it. I dreaded the day when my mom wouldn't be able to do it anymore, and I was not going to ANY stylist. So I'm happy that I can manage it!

Thanks for the explanations on the difference between a perm and a relaxer. I feel so slow when I ask questions like that...lol

DDtexlaxed - Maybe you did put enough pressing oil. I always didn't put enough when I tried to press it with a pressing comb, and my mom would say "Child, what is that little bit of pressing oil gonna do??"...lol

Also, Sistaslick informed that you have to go over the hair slowly, leaving the iron at the root for about 3 seconds, which I did. And, to flat iron SMALL pieces, which I believe is probably the reason why many people have problems.

Ooooh Pet I'm so glad that you finally used flat iron which works great for your hair:D , now you can throw the hot comb away and thanks and kiss your mother for all the hours she passed on your hair!
Now you can do it by yourself, Congratulation:yay:

Your hair is beautiful. What did you put in there before flatironing?

Thanks again girls!!

Faith - I washed with MNT Shampoo, did a deep conditioner with CON (just to avoid my hair falling out from me doing it..lol), then I used salerm as a leave-in conditioner, and put some Dax Pressing Oil while my hair was damp, and blowdried all in. Then with each section I put a dab of pressing oil.

Soun - yes, it is time to throw the pressing comb away!!
