Thanks, Carlie. I read that topic and still had a few questions, specifically about which one I should use for my hair.

I look forward to hearing your responses to my questions, I greatly appreciate your sharing and your advice.

Here's the Avlon Affirm link: Click Here Basically, the 5 in 1 is for Damaged or Fine, Limp Hair and the Positive Link is for Medium to Coarse Hair. It all depends on what kind of hair you have. I hope that helps. :yep:

Thanks again everyone!!! I was debating whether or not I should post my pics because I'm pretty much introverted online and offline but I'm glad I did. It's been a loooong year and there were many times when I felt like cutting it all off. :yep: The hardest thing about taking care of your hair is having the patience to wait for the results. :D Happy Hair Growing Everyone! :)

I know I have some questions I haven't answered yet but I will do so before tomorrow... ....I'm not feeling too well and I think I need to lie down. :ohwell:

Once again, All of your comments are very

Ok, I'm feeling much better now. :yep: Now to answer the rest of your questions...my responses are in red.

2) Could you give airdrying tips? Whenever I airdry my hair, whether it be in a bun, ponytail, etc, my hair dries crunchy. My hair HATES s-curl but it does well with Bumble and Bumble Leave-in, UBH moisturizer and oils, mixed in. I think that the only way my hair would be able to dry moisturized would be with cornrows or with a rollerset. Doing ponytail rollersets doesnt always help. However, I worry that the cornrows and rollersets would be too much manipulation, because I wash my hair every other day or at least every three days because I work out. What advice do you have for me?

The reason why hair drys so smooth when rollerset is because it is shaped and forced to stay that way when rolled with the roller. The hair has no choice but to dry in the way that it was shaped/stretched. I always airdry my hair when I wash it and my hair never dries crunchy. The way I do my buns is like they way one would make a bantu knot. After applying whatever products to my wet hair, I'll join the hair together at my nape as if I was going to put it into a ponytail; while holding the hair w. a firm grip, I'll then begin to twist the entire length of the hair and wrap the hair around itself, tucking the ends in underneath the rest of the hair. I'll then secure the bantu knot style bun w. a scrunchie or headband. Also, I tie my satin scarf firmly around my hair. My hair has no choice but to dry straight with the ends wavy. :yep:

3) Finally, I think that I read in your journal that you are trying to workout a lot more. Are you still going to keep washing your hair once a week or do you think that you will increase the frequency? Do you have tips for those of us who would like to work out but are also trying to grow our hair?

As miraculously as it may sound, even after working out up to three times a week, my hair doesn't smell. My hair usually smells clean for the whole week. Therefore, I don't find that I need to wash my hair more than once a week. This may sound weird but when I workout, I tie my satin scarf over my hair so that if my roots sweat a little, it won't puff out (when I have new growth)....I also do this to keep my hair protected from the wind...I know it's weird. :look: After the workout, I'll remove the scarf to allow whatever moisture that's there to evaporate. After I workout my hair isn't dripping with sweat....it may be a little damp at the root, but that's all....nothing major....that's probably why my hair stays smelling fresh the whole week. Also, I don't use a lot of product on my scalp. I'm sure that has a lot to do with it as well. :yep:

4) When you say no heat, does this mean that you don't use heat to condition your hair (i.e. sit under the dryer/heating cap with conditione?) or does this mean that you airdry?

I've sat under the dryer w. conditioner before. I don't have a problem with that. I haven't done it in a while though....except the other day at the salon. I always airdry my hair in the type of bun I've previously described. I don't use blowdryers, curling irons, etc. I've used a flatiron once in the past year and I don't see myself doing that again anytime soon. Really, the only time my hair is done w. heat is when I go to the salon for a touch-up, and my hair is rollerset.

Thanks for sharing your journal and thanks in advance for your response to my question. You are one of my hair inspirations!

Thank you for waiting so patiently for my response. I hope I've answered your questions though! :p I'm glad that you were inspired. :yep: Thank you and Happy Hair Growing! :Rose:

Indian hair oil? I've been using Amla Oil and recently Vatika Oil. Is that what you're talking about?

The longest I remember my hair ever being was almost BSL....right before I had to have it cut to shoulder length due to damage from heat and probably stress as well. :yep:

Yes thats what I was referring to ....could you elaborate on it...ie its similar to coconut/evoo or castor oil, does it make your hair stronger etc?

Carlie! Carlie! Thanks so much for your tips. You are so helpful! And yes, you are very inspiring. Your hair has improved so much, it is amazing. Thanks very much for the hairdrying tips. I will try to airdry with your bun method and I will see what happens. What are your favorite products for airdrying? Also, if I had to choose between one oil which would you recommend, the Amla or the Dabur Vatika? Thanks again.

Favorite products for airdrying? Ummm....SCurl (of course :D ; I ALWAYS use Salerm 21 after I wash my hair....for the past few mths if not more, I've been mixing it w. NTM Silk Touch Leave-In....and oils. That's really all I need. Sometimes I'll just use SCurl and no oils. Regardless, my hair dries fluffy, lots of body and soft. I usually oil my scalp the day after washing....there are exceptions though.

Choosing between Amla or Vatika? No can do. I've recently added the Vatika and I'm happy w. both as I use them both differently. I use the Amla for my prepoo and I use the Vatika as a regular hair oil on my scalp mixed w. other oils.

Carlie! You are so sweet. Thanks again for your help! I love products that are cheap and good. I will be trying the Amla oil. The Vatika scares me a lil', because it has henna and lemon in it. I dont know if my fragile tresses can take that.

Dabur Vatika Hair Oil

Dabur Amla Hair Oil

Yes, it is supposed to make your hair stronger, among other things. :yep:

I am really looking forward to trying amla oil. It sounds like an enriched form of coconut oil -- my absolute favorite oil -- I like it even better than my second favorite oil -- olive oil.

Here are some more details for people who had questions about it:

Amla (Amlica embilicus) seed oil - Amla is the name given to the edible fruit of a small leafy tree (Amlica embillicus) which grows throughout India. This fruit is highly prized both for its high vitamin C content and for the precious oil which is extracted from its seeds and pulp and used as a treatment for hair and scalp problems. Amla oil, which one of the world's oldest natural hair conditioners, is prepared from dried amla berries which have been soaked in coconut oil for several days in order to extract the oil soluble vitamins from the fruit. It not only brings forth a rich, natural shine and soft texture, but also helps rejuvenate hair that is dull and damaged.

Amla - Phyllanthus emblica; family - Euphorbiaceae

This fruit is highly prized both for its high vitamin C content and for the precious oil which is extracted from its seeds and pulp and used as a treatment for hair and scalp problems. It is the world's richest source of vitamin C. Amla fruit is also known as "Indian Gooseberry".

Amla oil is prepared from dried amla berries which have been soaked in coconut oil for several days in order to extract the oil soluble vitamins from the fruit. The filtered and purified oil is commonly called "amla oil". This oil has a long history of use as an aid for improving the health of hair and scalp. In fact, it is one of the world's oldest, natural hair conditioners.

Amla forms the major ingredient of popular indian remedies like 'Chyavanprash' and 'Trifla'.

Active Principles - Tannins such as emblicanin A and B, punigluconin, quercetin (flavonoid) and Vitamin C.

Antioxidant Activity - In the present day scenario of high pollution and stress. Amla can be helpful by countering the free radical induced changes.

Cytoprotective Activity

Hepatoprotective Activity - Protection of liver against liver toxicants like country made liquor and paracetamol was observed with 50 % ethanolic extract of Amla.

Hypolipaedemic Activity - Lipid lowering effect of Amla has been shown in rabbits.

Clinical studies conducted on patients with allergic and respiratory infections showed that Chyavanparash ( which contains high content of Amla ) caused decrease in the IgE levels. This was shown more pronounced in the allergic groups. Hence, Chyavanprash helps in controlling allergic respiratory problems.

Effects of Amla on Smokers showed that it helped in improving the quality of life and general well being

You know, others who are better at hairgrowing can give you their view. I have read in several books that it is a dye that can be difficult to get out of the hair and I have heard that lemon is drying for the hair. But clearly Dabur Vatika has worked well for Carlie and, I think, Boadecia, so maybe those things dont apply in this case. My hair is so fragile and thin and weak that even the mildest things can make it take a turn for the worse, so I might just stick to the amla. Maybe others can tell us more about this, I am definitely a tyro on this board and maybe one of the more experience maestros can tell us more about this.

Thanks again ladies!!! :D

The temporary password I gave for my journal is no longer valid. However, I did post my 1 year progress pic in the photo gallery here as well as in my album. :yep:

Have a good day everyone! :weird:
