I Bought a Wig Today...My First Ever!

Ok...so I know I just got a touch-up last night. However, in my quest for healthy hair. I needed another protective style doesn't require tension on my ends. I've never worn a wig before and am a little self conscious about wearing it. I haven't quite got mind set on wearing it out in public yet, it may take a month or two before I do that. :p I tried on a half wig (or is it called a fall). It was really nice, but I didn't like the fact of leaving some of my hair out in the front, since the front of my hair is the part that needs the most TLC and growth. Plus, I have a big forehead and it just didn't look right. :lachen:

Well the wig I have is so versatile, the lady in the BSS help to put it on and yes I walked out of the store with it on my head. That was tough! Anyway, she was able to pull it back and put it in up-do. So, once I get the courage to wear it, it's going to get a lot of use. :-)

I think the brand is called Think Pink Wig Collection.

Style: Shanghai (LJ-228). Color: 2

Since you all are my girls, I'll share the pictures with you. I don't think I'm going to put them in my album.

this is really cute is it human hair, i usually buy those because they last longer

very nice choice in style be sure to moisturize your hair underneath

Thanks, I think it's synthetic. I'll be sure to buy human hair next time. I bought this one because the skin that the hair is attached sort of looks like a real scalp.

Thanks for the tip on moisturizing, I'm going to definitely take heed to that.

It looks nice. I get very conscious about my hairpieces also being late to the faux hair party. I had to think about the fact that quite a few black women wear weaves/wigs and nobody trips on them so I'm sure they will not trip on you. Wear it with confidence!

It looks really good on you! If you're concerned about the synthetic hair looking too shiny, you can soak the wig in a mixture of vinegar and water to help make it a little more "dull". I think you can also try washing it in clarifying shampoo. I keep meaning to do that with my instant weaves.

Thanks PJ76 for that tip! How do I do that without having the little flip/curls fall out?

Thanks so much ladies for all of the compliments!!! I may be ready to wear it out a lot sooner than I thought.

Since I got touch-up on Friday night, I'm going to wear my hair out through Wednesday. Then protect my hair Thursday through Friday with the wig. So, I may be rocking it on Thursday at work, we'll see though. :)

Thanks girl! The asian lady in the store helped me pick it out. She sat me in front of a mirror for like 20 minutes, helping try on and style different wigs.

That wig is way cute!!!! It looks so natural!!! Perfect way to protect from the winter elements for the next few months!

Its funny, I had actually planned on buying a wig as well for a protective style, but I want something short w/curls!!! Im going to the Wig Shop next week!

Just fill your sink or a basin with warm water and add some vinegar or shampoo, then dip the wig in it and swish it around a little. Don't rub or disturb the hair in any other way. Then, rinse the wig in fresh water the same way (dip in water and swish around). Hang it up to dry, and the style should stay intact.

Of course, check the label on your wig to make sure it's OK to wash it. I know my instant weaves say that they can be washed with no problems.

Thanks Kini!!! I want a short one as well. I've also been looking for one that kind of has a natural look (almost kinky corkscrew, not relaxed look). I'm still searching for that though.

Thanks girl, I will definitely try it!

Welcome to the world of instant style:lachen: :lachen: I go between my bun, ponytail and my wig. A client asked how I got my hair in such cute curls and I said "I put them on" .

Enjoy!!!

It does look good. I do think you will like it even more once you wash it and take the shine down, it will seem even more natural. Please pay extra attention to your edges, because a wig can take them out! And I don't know if you massage your scalp but it might be a good idea if you are wearing a wig. I wore one when I first started going natural, I was so self conscious. Everyone knew but I got so many compliments. And after awhile, no one cares if its a wig or not as long as it looks good. And when you take it off and your hair is long and healthy, it will be all good!

Thanks! I'll start doing scalp massages as well.

I'm going to wear something over my head under the wig, will that still effect my edges?
