I am rethinking MSM

I couldn't empathize with the facial breakups and then I looked at my face and I look like a teenager. My skin is discolored and broken out everywhere. I have always had smooth skin with even tones. It really was a shock to actually look at my face. If this is caused by MSM, I guess I have some thinking to do.

How long have you been using the MSM?

MSM tends to do that because it helps rid your body of toxins. Unfourtunately, many of these toxins come out through the skin. It did that to me too for a while, and then my complexion actually got better than it was before.

I have been taking MSM for about a year. The breaking out started about 2 months ago. I guess the drying effect of the black soap was counteracting the MSM. I stopped using the black soap because I didn't like the drying and here I am all pimply.

Hmm. Well if you have been using it for a year and your breakouts started two months ago, then it's got to be something else.

Soap is not good for your skin. That's why so many top brands of skin care are soap-free. Also, when you dry out your skin it will only produce more oil to counteract the dryness.

I've been looking for an article that I read yesterday but my computer was completely overhauled and I can't find the internet file.

It did recommend drinking alot of water when taking sulphur supplements (At least an extra 1.5 to 2 litres). This is because they cause detoxification and you need the water to ensure the toxins can be transported in urine. If you don't take enough water, the toxins accumulate in the sweat ducts of your skin and unfortunately, your face is a prime area.

Taking excess copper also inhibits absorption of sulphur.(Don't combine a multivitamin and sulphur at the same time)

If only I could find the article!! /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've always had an oily face and used soap to cleanse. I've tried the 'soap free' cleansers(oil of olay, clinique and boots no 7). None of them have any difference in the drying out effect. I put soap free in quotes because looking at the ingredients alot of them have detergents which essentially makes them soaps.............Laureth sulphate and derivatives SLS,ALS as well as Dodecyl Sulphates and derivatives SDS. Anything that foams is a soap whether or not it is called soap free.

I think when they say soap free they mean something like ammonia free or non-ionic surfactants are used ( which essentially are soaps)........This is a good time to stop lol /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I feel you on that note. I was talking my vitamins at one time, but you have to weigh your options and consider what's more important to you. Eventually the MSM will rid your body of the toxins that's coming out in your pores and your skin will be glowing. Well.....essentially, that's what happened with me. However, I believe the Biotin was causing excessive hair growth in other areas that I was not TOO fond of. Needless to say.....rather than looking like Sassqutach (sp?), I let nature take it's natural course with my hair.

This exact same thing happened to me when I used it too. I never get breakouts and my complexion is even and smooth all over. I felt like a freak and my own son made a comment about my face /images/graemlins/frown.gif.

I guess MSM is not for everyone. The ladies on the board were saying that you need to drink more water when taking MSM, but I have been drinking 64 oz of water everyday for years so it couldn't have been that.

Did you get headaches too?

See, my thing is I have tried to do everyday instead of every other day like I had been doing. I think combining all of the vitamins with the oils is causing havoc on my face. I also itch and can't remember which of the supplements causes itching. I may just go back to my calcium, HSN, and COQ10 and leave all of the other supplements alone.

Black soap is very good for the skin but I just decided I didn't want to use it anymore. My skin likes Nozema better but, apparently, the Nozema can't fight off the effects of all the supplements I am taking.
