I almost broke down and tex/relaxed my hair this wknd.

#fakeworkouts
I did it. After neglecting my hair most of the year and then washing
my hair and pulling it back into a ponytail I was frustrated. My hair
was balled up on my scalp so tight I lost it. Now it was not my hairs
fault. I took my cornrows down about 2-3mo ago and never got them
redone. That in an of itself is not a problem. Me pulling it back w/o
properly detangling or moisturizing it was. So there it was Thursday
and I went to Sally's and bought a Design Elements texturizer just before
closing. I went home to open up a box that had neutralizing shampoo
leaking and when I opened the texturizer jar it was a dry top layer crusty
mess. I tried to call customer service to see if it was normal but it was
normal but it being late I was forced to leave a message. Friday I walked
into Beauty Supply Warehouse thinking I would buy a thio perm since the
ph was lower than a regular perm. The only one I could find was wave
nouveu sp? I heard that is bad because if it dries out your hair will fall out.
Not a good look so I put it down. While there Silk elements called and told
me definately not to use it and to return it to the store which I had already
done. So then I dediced to come to the board and see which perm had a low
ph. Then I decided after all this to just leave it alone. I know how my hair does
when it is permed plus I just cut 4 in of texlaxed hair off last summer to go back
and texlax again would (4in which would have put my short torso having
self at waist length)have been a waste. As a compromise
I decieded to straighten my hair and get a trim. But as I blowdried my comb
kept flying off the end of the dryer barrel. So then I decided to leave the heat
alone twisted my hair oiled the ends and put it in a bun. Now i'm on a mission
to find someone to braid my hair because my braider from here has gone MIA.

The lesson is don't get mad at your hair when you are the one neglecting it and
remember what works for you and don't repeat past mistakes. Due to my neglect
I don't think I have retained any length from last year and may have actually lost
some length because I was this length a while back if I remember correctly. Said
all that to say I am back on the haircare bandwagon, thanks to happilyme for her inspirational hip length hair pics I really want my hair to be long and thick like that.

I may be next. I'm having a love-hate relationship with the natural hair.

I'm glad you came to the realization that you do have to put more time in your hair.

Cool post, OP. It's as if you were meant not to get a relaxer/texturizer at all costs!

and Bey's pic threw me off a lil lmao

I decided to texlax again after stretching for 6 months because I like the though of being natural but prefer the way my texturized hair behaves.

BTW: I had a Wave Nouveau for years and it was never drying. I never did any protein treatments so my hair was way over moisturized. If I had found LHCF when I had the wave I would probably still have it.

I can relate to the bolded! I'm debating whether or not I should attempt to texturize my own hair this weekend. I miss the way my hair used to feel moisturized and swing . The problem is, I definitely don't trust ANYONE to relax my fine hair (which is thick, yet has very fine strands--stylists just want to make it bone straight). UGH decisions...

I see you're a fellow low Ph warrior!!! I'm not sure if you've tried elucence relaxers but they all have a ph of 11. How low do you want the ph to be?

Good for you resisting the temptation in the end. I too am transitioning and currently in braids to attempt to resist to relax. When you have done something for so long it is amazing how we subconciously become dependent on it. Hang in there

:look: like a 9
You can always mix your relaxer with other ingredients to lower the pH

I saw that somebody here mixed her relaxer and tested and still got the same ph.

Truth be told if i coud get the results I wanted I would do it but my hair has several textures going on and I think the front would end up straight and the back would be perfect. I just can't risk loosing my big hair
