I am doing a S&D and I have a lot of split ends and ssks. I have not used any heat since May, bun 99% of the time, moisturize and seal nightly/every other night, co-wash 3 times a week. I use Suave shampoo, deep condition weekly, and whole head baggy at least once a week. What more can I do.

I am trying to grow to wl, but what can be done to prevent this?

I also have 3b/3c hair, so am I not using the right products, not often enough. Also the last time I did a really good trim was in April, but I did a S&D and a dusting about a month ago.

I need to know too, I can't seem to figure it out. I'm starting to think its my cheap shears so I'm planning on going to a salon at the end of the year.

protein
protective styles with product coating ends
no/very very low heat regimen
gentle manipulation

Also, depending on when you started taking excellent care of you hair, you may still have lots of weak hair on your head from whatever previous hair practices you had. If that is the case, then sometimes it is just a matter of gradually trimming and cutting the weak hair away, because it is too far gone if that makes sense.

HTH

ETA: Sometimes less is more. You are co-washing a lot. Wet hair is fragile hair, and you're having to handle your wet hair at least 3 times/week. Some people can do that, but for some it's too much.

ShawnC thanks I made a bunch of sticks and toppers a while back but only connected a few I need to stop being lazy.

I have been bunning and have switched to the open U shaped hair pens and haven't been penning the ends just tucking. Every time I straigten ( not very often, few times a year) I find lots of splits and end up trimming an inch or more off, I get huge monster tree like splits too. Splits so big they confuse me. I swear I should have made WL by now :(

Supergirl, you are probably right! I used to flat iron my hair once a week and did not deep condition, or trim like I should have. So that makes sense!!! Should I do protein treatments once a month?

WyrdWay my ends look like trees too. I had to cut those things off! lol!

I am going to do a good protein treatment this weekend and see if that will make a difference.

Yes, stick some protein in your regimen. Mild protein once a month OR major protein every 6-8 weeks or as needed.
