Thinking about making my own haircare products for myself. Since i spend so much money on products and it goes to waste when it doesn't work for me. Does anyone know where i can find information on how to make my own products?

you can make your own oils via the double boiler or crockpot method. homemade body creams can also double as a cream for hair. so look up hair and bodycare recipes as a search. yt is also a great place to search for this info. do a search on here as well.

my suggestion is throw everything in a blender and use a good preservative ,lol.
I made my own conditioner (inspired by myhoneychild Honey mask) but I don't feel pleasure using it cuz i ve done it myself ..difficult to explain i guess it's a little like a chef not wanting to eat the food he cooked .

I buy ingredients from lotioncrafters and mimic products I like.

I make gel, conditioner, leave ins from simple kitchen products. Honey, aloe, coconut oil etc.

ehow.com, you tube, searches here on the forum :yep:. I buy a lot of my items from here-
organic-creations.com. HTH

I second what havilland said. I get most of my raw ingredients from lotion crafters, their shipping is a bit much, but if you buy enough products, it's worth it. I've also gotten ingredients from vitacost.com and health food stores like whole foods & trader joe's. i get my product ideas either from youtube or DIY beauty recipe books, there are many to choose from depending on what you're trying to do.

Here is another DIY site with a ton of haircare recipes. Have fun! http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.ca/p/hair-care.html?m=1

I second this. Also try

I can't remember the last time I actually bought a hair or skin product off the shelf. I also try to recreate recipes of vendors that have products with ingredients that I like.

I haven't tried making hair products but I've been making my own butter blends for my skin for over 2 years now. Actually I had made the butter for my hair bit I didn't like it lol

I got Shea, mango and avocado butters from buttersnbars and oils from the heath food store.

I use to make my oils with this method. I even made a video on it:

I now have a new method that's a lot less time consuming.

Bumping... Has anyone created they're own deep conditioner.

How do you properly heat, mix, blend etc the ingredients together?

I really like Point of Interest. After doing some research there I felt confident enough to try making a lotion/cream. Now, I make my own hair creams and body lotions and they're pretty much all that my family uses. I'm going to try to make a rhassoul clay bar (like Anita Grant's). I've not been brave enough to try making soap, but I hope to one day.

The bonus is that you get to make something that works on YOUR hair as opposed to hair LIKE your hair.

Me, too. I really enjoy formulating my own stuff and my hair has never felt better or been more moisturized. Her blog is a one stop shop for learning to make your own hair and skin care formulations.
