hahahah -- yea -- I guess there is no "nutshell" it takes a devotion of time and hair care maintainence.

Wow, we're almost in complete agreement. Except the professionals part. Ain't nobody touching my hair w/ chems. I also have regular henna treatments to my list.
 
Keep your hair and ends moisturized.
Stay away from heat (or use minimal, indirect heat), especially if relaxed.
Keep it simple.
Have a good, healthy diet.
Drink lots of water daily.
Exercise regularly to get that blood flow to the scalp.
Be consistent with your regimen.
Love your hair now, exactly as it is.

In addition to what everyone else says, I would add one thing. Pray. Remember, a woman's hair is her "crown and glory" :) !
