how to get the best rollerset on natural or relaxed hair

I just can't imagine not putting any product in my hair everyday. I feel I have to put a little something. I don't wait until my hair gets dry, I always put stuff in it so it won't be dry

Her hair always comes out gorgeous. Too bad I can't use this for my own hair for roller sets. Pretty sure if I were to try it, my hair would revolt and beat me up

Pony roller sets are pretty common amongst those that roller set. The paper towel is a different twist though. I've heard of people using brown paper bags but never paper towel. Her hair looks awesome either way, no denying that. I can't imagine using no leave-ins / heat protectant or product for days and days. I work out and sweat a lot so my sets never last that long. I loved the bounce she achieved without flat ironing.

They take to long for me. I rather do a full head. 40 minutes with full head and ponytail rollersets after 2 hours isn't even dry for me smh

i did a flexirod set on dry hair and it was a total fail. I'm glad you posted this Lilmama1011 because i actually thought to myself next time'll try rollers because i cannot get me roots straight with flexirods at all.

Her hair looked gorgeous. . My roots will not look like that, I 've tried the ponytail method, my hair was cute but my roots were puffy and it wasn't time for a relaxer.

I only roller set in the coldest months of the year because my hair reverts so easily. Is it possible to train the hair to rollers without causing heat damage? I'm wondering if her hair turns out so well because her hair is trained? Is that possible?

I tried this. The length of my hair looks great, but my roots are still puffy. It made a cute ponytail. Id definitely have to hit my edges with a flat iron if I wanted to wear it out.

Depends on the texture.

My roots are always puffy after a wash until being straightened. I full roller set. The ponytail methods seems silly to me for some reason. When I wrap/satin scarf my hair after the rollers then it comes together just how I want it. Bouncy as all get out and full of body. I roll my hair with rollers meant for shorter hair so my bumped ends last all week and I NEVER have to flat iron it.

This method for me has helped me retain so much length. No more sizzling off my ends every day/other day flat ironing or curling :yep:

Wow!!!!!!!! Under the dryer as we speak.

I never tried a ponytail rollerset but today is the day. I used end papers not paper towels though.

My hair is thick though so I'm going to be under this dryer forever. Not a big deal though since it takes less time to set.

I bought some of those ouchless rubbetbands instead of regular rubber bands.

I will report back.

I've noticed when I roller set, because the hair is already smooth, I don't need to really m&s daily or unless I need it. I do use a leave-in heat protectant though.

With rollersetting, unless your wearing the hair out or subjecting it to much manipulation, it really shouldn't dry out unless it's just damaged. I'm not saying wait til it's dry or don't m&s, but I noticed when I moisturized just because I didn't want to wait til it's dry, it will cause more dry/dingy/damaged/scraggly ends then it's meant to prevent. Then I'd have to use protein in my ends during deep conditioning to counteract these effects before hand.

I stopped dusting as much when I stopped m&s daily vs when I needed it. It's just a suggestion or something to think about. In the case of m&s with rollerset hair, it was causing more harm than good.

I had just added a little oil when I did my rollers and I was fine. Also moisturizing causes frizz. But this wee I did a twist out and called myself doing just oil and my ends felt rough for the first time, so I'm figuring because the hair was more curly than smooth or that ampro spritz is crap Saludable84

What kind of oil you use? When I use rice bran oil wheat germ (mixed with avocado) I don't have frizz. Sometimes, the oil makes a difference. When I do twist outs, regardless to whether my hairlis wet or dry, I use my creamy leave-in, twist, then put some oil on two fingers and run your finger down the twist a few times. I've been doing that for the past year and my twists outs come out fluffier rather than playing roulette for a decent twist out.

Grapeseed oil Saludable84

Saludable84, because temps get over 100 here, I like to moisturize periodically for safekeeping. I don't have to do it daily but I do every few days or so just to make sure my hair doesn't dry out. Sleeker hair requires less work and product for sure. My hair is hidden under hats (when outside) during the winter so I can get by with less moisturizing in general during the winter.

That's right. I keep forgetting that as many times as you mention it. When it gets hot here, using protein regularly helps a lot. That way, the protein that is burning off get replenish and I don't have to deal with sun damaged hair. Learned that the hard way.

Gorgeous hair...the makeup/ fake eyelashes were very distracting....love love her hair though. Reminds me of mine in its glory days!

OP, I am mad at you for making me want to roller set again! I haven't straightened my hair in forever-evah, but I am giving it serious thought now. I have recently reintroduced cones to my regi to combat SSK's. It might be time to bust out the rollers....

This video keeps coming to my thoughts. I wonder how she doesnt have an oily scalp after so long w/out washing. My hair would NOT look so shiny and lovely after a week or however long she claimed.

Shes inspired me to use less product and also to try not to shampoo so much since she claims she co washed + co'd only and still has such clean shiny hair.
I use Joico Moisture Recovery as well.

Anyway her hair is soo beautifullll  The thickness is nuts.
Shes making want to stop relaxing.

I may try a pony set next week. Rollersetting the normal way is a long process. I tried pony setting years ago but I wasnt experienced at setting.
