that goes to the salon, paying for the services? I'm just curious. I don't intend to go back to the salon, I'm going to be stylist-free. Listed below is what I've been paying.

Individual braids-$285.00 (I have did my own once before)
Cornrows-$75.00
Relaxer-$60.00 (Use to do my own, kinda afraid but I can do it)
Wash & Set-$40.00 (Do my own most of the time)

Looking at it, I can save a lot of money.

what a great way to compare prices in different parts of the country:

individual braids: $100 or free by my nieces
cornrows: free by my nieces
relaxer retouch: $60 Affirm, $45 Dark & Lovely
wash & style: $40 (gone up since longer, i don't get roller sets)

Looks like NY is the place to live for lower hair care prices. $10 - $15 for a wash and set??? Sounds like the 1970s.

Looks like I've been paying way to much for braids. I have paid as much as $325 and one lady charges $500. (I told her she had to be out of her mind!!!!)

This is a range of what I've paid for services over the last 7 years (approximations):

Relaxer: $50-$65 (Affirm)
Deep conditioner: $10-$20
Wash & set: $30-$50
Trim: $10-$30

From talking to friends & peers, I know that you can get services cheaper than these in Chicago, but I guess I've just ended up at salons that tend to be more on the pricey end (but then again, I don't go that often, and in my mind, I'd rather go by service & reputation than price) And yeah, I lived in NY for about 6 months, and the Dominican salons are on point & VERY inexpensive!

I only get a relaxer from my stylist. she trims hair for free. but when i asked for a frigging spiral set, she charged me 5 dollar extra.

I mostly do my own hair, relaxers, trims, etc. The only thing that I don't do is braid my own hair, I am to lazy.
