to get individual braids if you are bringing your own hair to the salon?

I am planning on getting my hair braided on Saturday at Fa salon in NYC. i just called and they said $100 if I bring my own hair, which I plan on doing so that I can rinse the Kanekalon hair to prevent my sclp from itching. I can't wait to start the Crown and Glory method.

By the way...can Kanekalon hair be purchased at any beuty supply store?

And...has any NY ladies been to the salon. If so is there a particular person that you would suggest I go to?

TIA!!!!

I used to live in NY -Where is Fa salon? I used to go to the Africans in Harlem where they chase you off the subway saying "hair fo brday miss? ah- I miss NY.

I could atleast negotiate between 85.00 and 100.00 toget my hair braided @ 4, 5 years ago 100.00 was the going price even with your own hair!

by the way, what is the crown and glory method?

That's a good price. I paid $200 for my braids and that included the hair (synthetic). What style are you getting?

$100 is a good price, but you might be able to pay $80 if you go to harlem 125th street. the braiders are ready and eager to do your hair. just tell them all you have is $80. and yes you can buy the hair at basically any beauty salon. try one that is on 125th street. The braiding shops are on 125th bet 7th and 8th. there's a popeye's i believe on the corner. they do hair very good and they are fast. HTH

yep the Africans are all over 125th all you gotta do is walk and they will chase you. Trust me. Sometimes depend on whattime of day you go there will be 2 or 3 on your head the same time making the production time quick. Oh-And everyone is everyone's sister(pronounced seeh-sta) so you can ask if her sister can help her braid fast.

It's located on: 2798 Frederick Douglass B

The crown and glory method is a way to grow your hair using braids. You can do a search to find out much more detail. There is alot of information on it.

I'm getting individual braids. I don't want micros. It is suggested for Crown and Glory for the braids to be pencil size briads. My hair is very fine so I I might get it a tad bit smaller than that. I'm not too sure yet.

i've been to 125th street to do my hair before and I don't really like it. My hair came out nice. One time I got twist going into an updo. Another time I got cornrows going straight back. They braid a bit too tight. Fa Salon has been reccommended on this board so I figure I'll give it a try.

Thanks for letting me know where I can buy some hair. I'm on Philly right now so I'm gonna try to buy the hair here so that I can soak it the way Robin (from Crown and Glory) suggested and let it dry. But I am coming to NY for Labor Day weekend so I will get it braided there.

oh ok - Tryin to picture where that is- I lived on that side of town on 146th. bur yea I forgot - the Africans do braid kinda tight. - I haven't had REAL braids since I left NY. but I believe your price sounds good. I will research this crown and glory method. Sounds interesting.

I'm don't think $100 is too much. It starts at $150 in many places when they provide the hair & they're $70-$80 for cornrolls at Fa. I know this because every woman I've stopped in Harlem within the past two summers with cornrolls & braids all said they got their hair did at Fa. Just a week ago in IHOP at 7am I interrupted a lady's breakfast to ask where she got her cornrolls done. They were so pretty! -Fa. After eating I drove the few blocks to scope it out (she gave me the street) As this is my crown & glory year too, my weave has been out for a month now & I'm looking to get braids. I'm getting relaxed on Wed & then I actually plan on going this week to look thru some books & get some prices at Fa. Pls post pics of your style afterwards. I'd love to see your braids!

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Just make sure the braider doesn't braid your hair too tight. Also make sure they don't part your hair too small and add too much extension hair to each section that is to be braided. As far as kanekalon hair goes, you should pretty much be able to get it at any bss. Good luck and I hope your braids come out nice.
