Thanks Denali... /images/graemlins/smile.gif So I guess my amount isn't bad...lol. This week I got about 3 breaks/day...not bad. Down from 6-7 a day. **NOTE...I average the breaks based on how much is broken on wash day (which is 1-2x/week).

I recently saw this blonde-haired cashier at Hechts with at least 20 short broken-off pieces of hair on her shirt

Hair on shirt? I used to have that problem. These days, that's how I gauge my breakage. So far so good. I notice normal daily shedding only when I manipulate my hair by putting in rollers, taking them down, or finger-combing (10 hairs or less). I did notice some breakage after I tried to put an Infusium 23/coconut oil mix on my hair ends. /images/graemlins/nono.gif I guess it was too much liquid? or something?

I think a little breakage per day is normal.

I comb my hair every 2 days, and usualy that's with my fingers or afro pick. I lose about 10-12 shed hairs, and 2-3 broken hairs. On wash days I lose about 20-30 shed hairs and 5 broken hairs. So that's not alot of hair daily.

My test is always to run my hands over my dry hair and count the ends in my palm. Since I've been back in routine I'm happy to say I haven't seen any. When it was breaking a few weeks ago I would see 2-3.

I have came up with a regime where I would not have to manipulate my hair a lot. I only shampoo, condition, and style (mainly rollerset) my hair every 2 weeks. I have stopped using heat (I got rid of curling irons back when I joined the forum and stopped using the blowdryer a month or so ago). I only comb my hair in the morning and put it up at night. I have experience little to no breakage.

Before, I was on the bun challenge and I had a lot of breakage. I tried every way to do my bun and still had breakage. I also used a lot of products. So I just started thinking about how I achieved long hair without having it put up.

Now that I've cut down on using products and everything, I think my hair will have the potential to retain length and grow.

JUST LEAVE MY HAIR ALONE! /images/graemlins/hammer.gif

I believe that with a chemical process on the hair, one is bound to see some degree of breakage from time to time.

And about the deep conditioning treatments? I think they have greatly reduced the breakage I was experiencing about this time last year, not to mention leaving my hair soft, shiny, and moist.

I get serious breakage cause I have many different textures in my hair so theres a lot of weak spots. So I changed to a mininal-to-no comb technique and it works better.

But I do dread the inevitable- when I HAVE to run a comb through it cause my shedding seems to cause breakage. The shedded hair doesn't just come out, since my hair is so textured it usually gets knotted up and takes a few good hairs out with it. ***I need stronger hair!***

My breakage is minimal somedays, nothing, I always examine the comb. I noticed a change when: (1) I started to moisturize every day or night, (2) eliminated the use of curling irons, flat irons and (3) washed regularly.Good luck!
