How many sections do you part your hair

To wash = zero sections
To moisturize = 2 sections (parted in the middle)

This seems to work well for me

Shampooing & conditioning - if I'm lazy, zero, but if not 2-3
Detangling - 6, I want ALL the shed hairs out!
Moisturizing - 4

I split it into four, then divide the back two quarters in half. I divide the front two quarters into three parts each. So 10 sections. I only do this on wash day though. When I M&S during the week, my hair is usually in twists and I do two sections.
