Some of us are newbies, but there are some of us that have been growing our hair for years...

How long have you been on your journey?
 
My journey began during my first pregnancy. I started stretching my relaxer for safety reasons. When my son was born in 2008 my hair had grown a lot. I went from layered neck length bob to full shoulder length blunt cut.

In 2011 I cut my Mbl relaxed hair to Apl. Then after a bad tangling incident I big chopped. This is my 4th year natural and I'm maintaining my length around bsb until my layers grow out (and bangs). Then I am aiming for waist length.
 
Since my join date (late 2011). I never forget that I came on here looking for answers after a bad relaxer left me with oozing scabs and hair stuck together at the root. After spending sometime on here, I went from straightening my hair every day to wearing curly heatless styles. I really focused on M&S and protective styling with twists. I grew my relaxed hair to full shoulder length-APL and began my transition that June. I big chopped that may and have been growing out my hair ever since.

I started my HHJ the end of 2011. At that point I went from bonelaxing every 6 weeks to texlaxing. I also stopped using direct heat. I grew my hair from thin CBL to thick BSL. In June 2014 I had my last relaxer and now I'm transitioning to natural. My goal is to have WL natural hair by the end of 2018.
 
I started my hair journey in 2007 searchg for an end to breakage. Searched for years til recently... I looked in the mirror and found the problem. Its me! I keep makg progress, gettg comfortable and then fallg off. Consistency is so frickn impt and i have not been consistent for long enuf to make lastg changes. Right now i have the dreaded crown area breakage AGAIN! And i know exactly what to do, but am i doing it?... Pray for me yall
 
My last relaxer was in September 2010. I big chopped June 2011 and then cut it low again to get the right shape November 2011. I came to the forum around the same time. I have been growing ever since and I am about an inch from waist.
 
My hair journey started early 2013 when I decided I wanted to grow my APLish relaxed hair long (WL and beyond). 5ish months later and I was NOT happy with my progress (nope no patience :nono:) so I decided my retention would be greater with natural hair. Last relaxer June 2013, transitioned 14 months to BC August 2014 and my hair is longer now than where I started. Not an ounce of regret to be found :look:
 
I had my last relaxer in June 2013 for my sister's wedding. While I was at the wedding my interest was piqued about natural hair because several of my sister's friends were natural. Up until that point I just thought the majority of women permed. Didn't really think about it to be honest. So I spent the rest of the summer researching natural hair and how to transition. Shortly after that I found this site. I transitioned for about 17 months and bc'd 8/2/14. I feel I've found something that works for me and my hair has flourished in the past year of being natural. I'm looking forward to growing my hair. My goal is for waist length healthy hair.
 
I've always wanted long hair, but through my teens I was much more interested in bleaching it and dyeing it all kinds of colours! I had a run in with a dodgy flat iron about four yeara ago and my hair broke off to about chin length; I was devastated and knew I couldn't bear it to get any shorter. I thought I started taking care of it then, but all I really did was stop using permanent dye; I was still using heat almost daily with no protection, washing infrequently, no DC etc...I didn't know what I was doing!

About a year ago now I got fed up; I'd got some length back but I still wasn't getting anywhere fast. I began researching and realised how badlyI was treating my hair. I made some small changes then but I'd say my journey really began when I joined this board at the beginning of the year :)
 
I maintained a short hairstyle (crops/ fades) relaxed for several years, until I decided I wanted to grow it out in 2012. I used heat in abundance, and clip ins, to add length. By September that same year, the heat had thinned my hair (particularly the crown) and I'd damaged my scalp to the point of bald spots. I decided to stop relaxing and started wearing extensions- crochet braids, twists and box braids to transition. Gradually cutting off bone straight ends. My scalp still hadn't improved and I eventually wanted to be able to wear my hair out.
Around September 2014, I cut off the rest of my straight ends and I found LHCF in October. I just wanted to have a healthy head of hair, but after reading through old threads and new, I became inspired:) (thank you ladies). This year I joined a length challenge, and am actively trying to retain. It'll probably take a good year or two (if I'm good) before my crown area hits cbl (where the bottom half of my hair is now). I'll take each stage as it comes. I am focusing on healthy hair. My ultimate goal: MBL/ WL.

Since late 2011 when I saw a picture of me at a wedding and realized just how bitten off/chewed up my neck length hair looked. My original goal was to get to healthy looking APL. Along the way I developed thinning and bald spots in the top and switched my focus to regaining heath in that area. I'm still not there but I've made progress. Otherwise, I'm now APL but my hair is genetically fine, low density so I'm striving for BSL or slightly longer. All I want is a decent sized bun but I'm a slow grower and I feel like I'll never get there.
 
Way longer than my length indicates. :ohwell: I found LHCF in April 2007 and joined in May. I didn't see any real results until late 2010-early 2011 when I ditched the SHS I was going to. I reached APL and then transitioned until June 2013. Now I can't quite seem to get back to APL, much less to my BSL goal because I get lazy at night and don't protect my hair before sleep. But today I'm giving myself a much needed hard protein treatment and a good trim and will consider this my start-over. Hoping to be APL by the beginning of 2016 and BSL the next year. (All lengths are stretched.)
 
I first started my hair journey back in December 07 when I first stumbled on to the site. I had relaxed NL (by choice I kept a short bob) but my hair had still never passed more than a few inches past my shoulders. I kept up with my relaxer until Nov 2011(reached BSL) my edges were so thin from postpartum shedding I decided to stop relaxing for a while... Well it turned into a transition. Went fully natural about a year later Oct 2012. I got my hair straightened for the first time Sept 2014 she burnt out half of my hair... Relaxed again but you can't get away from heat damage... So I shaved off my hair mid February and now I'm back natural and I feel at home even if I don't have any hair :-/ :lol:
 
Forever, it seems. I've grew up a house full of women and none of them seem to be knowledgeable about hair. For example: It wasn't until recently that I learned that when you relax, you aren't supposed to relax your whole head. So I've lived with short hair, for a good majority of my life. But now I'm locing lol. I wish I knew then, what I know now. It probably could have saved me a bunch of heartache when I was old enough to care for my hair.
 
I started my hair journey in 2011 when I was just trying to figure out how to keep my hair on my head while I was doing back to back weaves. I had no idea bout moisturizing and sealing and no basic hair care practices at all.

I didn't get serious about growth until 2 years ago. In summer 2013 I big chopped and got serious about growing my hair out. I got to a little below SL and went to get a trim and ended up big chopping again because of heat damage. Now another year later I am SL again and really getting serious about getting length. Although short hair looks good on me I want to try getting my hair at least SL curly which would mean I'd probably have to be a little longer than BSL. Shrinkage is a witch!
 
I started in 2009 for "Hair Health"reasons as a Weekly Client at the Salon and after being Double/Tripled Processed with High Porosity.

So I was all about Hair Health. My last Relaxer was September 2014.

So now I'm currently finally focusing on Length.

Since 2006. I made good headway when I first joined hair boards, but quickly messed up multiple times because of ALL the information. My best was reaching BSL, but the ends of my hair were sparse and I held my head back a tad to call it :look: BSL cause I was so frustrated. Up until now, I wanted to try/buy EVERYTHING, but my hair was not having it. The more I bought and tried, the more tangled and wiry it got.

So, in earnest, I've really started to make headway this year when I joined a group of very very informed and sensible sisters on this board who have MY hair type. The thread is called Now Forming an Army of SUPER-LONG HAIR 4B (or mostly 4b) NATURALS!! Come on in!. @Prettymetty, you are one of those sisters:toocool:. The other one that inspires confidence in my hair care is @almond eyes. My hair has done NOTHING but grow since the day I joined that thread.:amen:

Thanks you are a gem Centered Girl. Thanks for your always sharing your progress and one day we hope to see a final reveal when you are ready.

I have been taking growing my hair seriously since the day I shaved it last May 2014 and since then I haven't looked back once. The only slight set back I had was early in the year when I slipped on my protein treatments and got hardheaded about that because I loved the moisture that my hair was getting from water only. But now all is back on track. My hair never had issues getting to APL but once it hit APL due to my fine strands the elasticity would just snap now I know how to keep my strands strong without the protein overload and hopefully past APL by late next year.

December 2007 I found out about Cathy Howse and the rest was history.
Not long after Cathy I joined BHM and then LHCF.

Since then I've big chopped 3 times.
I've been relaxed, texlaxed, natural back to texlaxed, and back to natural again.. lol .. to me its just hair. I'm team #healthyhaironmyownterms.

I can honestly say (my) hair is fun to me. I wouldn't do hair for a living, but its been an adventure learning how to retain and care for my hair in all it's different states.

I also enjoy seeing other people's progress.

Hair. Who would have thought that would become one of my favorite pastimes. lol

In all these years I've (thankfully) only had 2 minor setbacks (1 protein overload and 1 texlax breakage).. I understood where I went "wrong" and I bounced back.

Fine 4b hair takes patience.
My hair grows pretty fast. I've learned to embrace the "grow out" phase this go around.
 
Joined Feb 2012. BC my natural but peroxide damaged hair July 2012. Chopped again from some drama in spring 2013. A cpl mini chops after that...then some deep trims... and I finally realized I have an addiction to chopping :look: which is real bad cuz im a slow grower to boot! ... but its still creeping along! :lol:
 
Been here since about November of '06, then finally decided to stop being cheap and pay the 6 bucks in February '07. :)
 
Technically since May 2007, that's when I decided to stop relaxing after some bad scalp burns. I also heard it would grow longer if I was natural....but I did absolutely nothing to spur growth and still used a lot of damaging hair care practices, and trimmed frequently. Despite my neglect, my hair did grow longer than it ever had (a few inches past APL). I found this site (and YouTube) in August 2013 and that's when I say my real journey started. I went from about 2-3 inches above BSL to Waist Length hair in 2 years. I never thought my hair could ever be this long. I'm still trying to find my moisture/protein balance, but overall, I'd give my hair a B as far as health.
