I can't believe that it's been 2.5 yrs since I've used direct heat!! :bouncy: I never thought that I could go just 1 day without it.

This leads to my question:
How long have u been consistent with aspects of ur regime?
I'm not talking about those things u do, then slack off.... I'm talking about those things that u are CONSISTENT about ROUTINELY that have improved the overall condition of ur hair?

Ok, I'll go first...

1) No direct heat (no curling nor flat irons) 2.5 yrs
2) No blow dryer 2 yrs
3) No hooded dryer 1.5 yrs
4) Airdrying only 1.5 yrs
5) Sleep with satin cap (EVERYNIGHT) 2.5 yrs

I've been consistent in other aspects of my regime also... these are just the top 5 that I am the most passionate about staying consistent with.

Good question girl ;) and btw, how are you :)
Since I have been texturized I have been quite consistent.
1. No direct heat (well except for my first touchup and my BDAY..so 2x in about 5 months).
2. Not abusing the chemicals
3. Protecting the ends from wear and tear...over 5 years through braids, interlocks, buns, etc.
4. Airdrying only for years now in fact I haven't blowdried in over a year (my hair was natural last time I blowdried)
5. I ALWAYS condition even if it's for 5 minutes...over 10 years
6. I ALWAYS apply a leave in...since my teens..over 10 years

Hey Peachtree!

The only thing I've been consistent in is:

1--> No direct heat since February (except for 2 times to trim)
2--> I always use conditioner after pooing (over 15 years)
3--> ALWAYS wear a satin or silk scarf to bed (over 15 years)

Can't really think of much else...

CONSISTENT about ROUTINELY

  • using conditioner after shampooing - since forever
  • wear satin bonnet/scarf (EVERY NIGHT) - since forever
  • spacing relaxer touch-ups - since 2001

err...

1. conditioner after shampooing - about 14 years
2. not using a relaxer - 7.5 years
3. Tieing my hair with a silk or satin scarf at night - about 13 years
4. err that's about it really. I need to get back to using olive oil as a hot oil treatment and I've used heat abut 4 times in 2004 :( .

I admire the consistency of things you ladies above have done! But I also see that you ladies have been members for a while!
I guess you ladies could still consider me as a newbie since I joined early this year. I haven't been consistent with a lot of things yet. So far, I would say wearing a silk/satin scarf or satin bonnet at night. :)
I've still been trying new things and seeing what works for my hair. I've been on the no heat challenge since September but I ended up using a blow-dryer back in November. Once the new year starts, I will start being consistent with the following:

1. No direct heat (blowdryer or irons)
2. Airdrying
3. No more relaxers
4. Conditioner washes
5. Using the products I have before buying anymore (I do not want to become a PJ)

I have been about 90% consistent with my regimen. I fell off the wagon twice this year when I flat ironed my hair for trims. I won't be using heat at all anymore though...

I...
haven't used the blow dryer or a towel in a year!
haven't used the curing iron in a year!
haven't relaxed either...in fact....today makes it an entire year. :)
have been sleeping in with my satin bonnet and scarf for a year also...
have been co washing daily or every other day since Feb...
have been sleeping in with my satin bonnet and scarf for a year also...

I have been consistent with:
  1. Limiting my use of heat [it has been months since I last used it]
  2. Stretching my relaxer touch-ups [it has been 10 weeks]
  3. Taking my dietary supplements daily [I have been consistent since I started taking them a few weeks ago]

... & to think that I just discovered this 2 yrs ago. My relaxed hair would have definitely benefited had I known to sleep in a satin bonnet/scarf during my 18 relaxed yrs...

No direct heat (other than the times my hair was too short to roller-set and perhaps 3 freebies)--13 years
Direct heat = irons, because I do have my roots blown out approximately once a month.

Wrapping my hair in silk or satin nightly--15 years

Wearing protective styles daily--3 months :look:

Taking my vitamins consistently--3 weeks

...I really need to become disciplined & stick to my vit regime also. I just HATE swallowing pills.

1. Deep conditioning every wash with Design Essentials for 1.5 years.
2. Blow drying and flat ironing every wash since FOREVER. Minority here. :wasntme:
3. No oils, sheens, grease, creams for over a year. (Only Biosilk Silk Therapy.) I NEVER thought I'd beable to go without a daily moisturizer. I've learned it's all about the DEEP CONDITIONER.
4. Wrap hair under a doo wrag. 1.5 years

1. NO direct heat except on touch-up days w/ a CHI (about once every 2-6 months) - 9 months
2. Sleeping in a satin scarf/bonnet - about 1.5 years..
3. Moisturizing my hair daily - about 9 months..
4. Washing at LEAST once a week - about 9 months..
5. Deep conditioning every wash - about 9 months..
6. Using a leave-in conditioner - about 9 months..
7. NOT greasing my scalp - about 9 months..
8. Sticking to the same main regimen - about 7 months..

I've been passionately consistent with:

* No heat of any kind in 1.5 years
* Arydrying only in 1.5 years
* Sleeping with a satin cap every night over 10 years
* Moisturizing my ends twice each day for 1.5 years
* Washing and deep conditioning my hair every 3-4 days for 1.5 years
* Not combing my air dried hair until when wet on wash day for 1.5 years
* Stretching relaxers to every 13 weeks for 1 year
* Using a conditioner after shampooing - always
* Drinking 8-10 glasses of water (or more) daily since childhood

I've been consistent with my current regimen of products for about a year.

Moisturizing after protein conditioner- since I joined the board.
Moisturizing hair every evening-about a year
Protective styles-about a year
Weekly shampooing and deep conditioning-about a year
Stretching relaxers-about 9 months: however, I think I will have to reduce the time to about every 6 weeks. My hair is growing fast enough to cause problems if I don't get it done more frequently. I notice a lot more shedding and or breakage if I wait 8 weeks- I don't dare wait longer than that.
Taking a regular multi-vitamin, plus extra biotin and MSM-about a year
Sleeping in a satin scarf/bonnet-forever
No direct heat-(only a hood dryer to dry hair after conditining) about a year

I have been consistent with my regimine for over 15 years. The only thing that has changed is that I do my hair at all times, except for my touchups and the products change, based upon my specific needs at the time.

1. I always deep condition after every, single wash.
2. I consistently do a roller set and blow out my roots (indirect heat).
3. I always wrap my hair at night, or at least tie it up with a silk scarf.
4. I always detangle my own hair before getting a touch up.
5. Dustings are a must every 8 weeks; trims, only when necessary.

Never dry hair with a towel
Always deep condition my hair
I had been rollersetting my hair ONLY for about 1.5 years until I air dried and flat iron it for pics and I got an Egyptian blowout about 2 months ago
I ALWAYS use a silk scarf or satin bonnet
ALWAYS use a leave in

Since August 19, 2004:
No relaxers
No direct heat (no curling irons, flat irons or blow dryers)
Sleep with silk scarf or silk pillow case
Wash and/or condition her twice a week

Very good topic. It's good to look back on your habits and take pride in sticking with something that is beneficial for yourself (hair included).

Silk Scarves, 10+ years
Shea butter, 1 year
Natural hair, 13 months

HAPPY, NAPPY HAIR...PRICELESS!!! :D

Now if I could just be consistent with my diet and exercise program, I would be DA BOMB!!
