How long has it been since you found this (or any hair forum)? After finding these oasis', how long did it take for your hair to show a difference? What was your hair like BEFORE you found this place?

ME FIRST!
I found BHM January 2, 2008(I was looking for a texturizer or SOMETHING to tame my natural mane!). I came here around March or so. My hair responded IMMEDIATELY to the tender loving care that I was taught here. My hair WOKE UP and I've been impressed ever since. It's getting fuller, longer and so full of energy. Before this place, my hair was like a dry tumbleweed on top of my head. I wanted to remain natural but didn't have a clue of what my hair needed. I did see on TV that moisture is the secret to great hair so I grabbed Pink Oil moisturizer thinking this was as good as it gets! NOT! I almost killed my hair! Now I'm here and loving it! I'm so glad I didn't give up on my natural hair, I found this place just in time!

I stumbled across this hairboard (first) on 6/28/2006, while visiting a fitness forum. Six months earlier, I had severely overprocessed my hair during self-relaxing, resulting in major breakage and dry, damaged, neck length strands. Sadly, I wasn't even looking for "hair help" because I didn't think that my hair could be "helped." I had always been told that my 4b type was "bad hair," so I decided to just accept my hair as it was. :nono::nono:

It took only 5 months of consistent haircare for me to see major improvement in the health and length of my hair. My 2-year anniversary is coming up soon, and I am very satisfied with my progress. As time passed, I found a few other hairboards, but LHCF is my favorite!

i came at the end of 2003 with broken 3 inches of hair all around due a bad weave, my first and last.

3 years later after finding this board i had decided to transition during part of that time, and ended up with Mid back length hair at the end of 2006.

it was since cut off to go all natural. but im about to repeat the process and hope to have the same results. if not better. :)

I found this place in October and showed postive results after the first two moisturing DC and was blown away after my first protein DC.

June? July? 2006 it was - I had jsut taken out my dreadlocks, and I refused - REFUSED - to continue believing that my natural hair was simply 'unmanagable' - I realized that I really didn't know WHAT to do with my hair. I found TLHC first, then here - and my hair is PROSPERING. I've gone past (far past) the length that I had that 'forced' me to get locs, and I KNOW that my natural, loose hair can grow long, long, long!

i found NP in late 2004 (first hair board i joined) and did my BC in March 2005. hair is doing better than ever. :yep:

I started my hair care journey 2/08 and although it's only been a few months, my hair is more healthy than it's ever been. I have learned sooo much from all of the wonderful ladies on the boards. Looking at all of the beautiful manes and reading the testimonies have kept me encouraged. Thanks Ladies!

I have never been so "hair conscience" before. There is no where to go but down from here.

(down my back that is). :yep:

I feel you on that. I totally thought the same thing.

found the board in march after following afrobella.com's link to macherieamour's blog. seeing her hair made me say "a black lady with long hair?!" and i had to know more. this led me to LHCF, i joined in april, and even before i joined i read a post on DCing so i bought an ORS replenishing pak and wore my hair curly for the first time since elementary school.

I started lurking on LHCF in July 2007 after I decided it has to be possible for black people to have long hair and I wanted to find out how to do it. I joined in August and within the first 3 months I had amazing results. I was doint EVERYTHING wrong and once I started regular shampooing, deep conditioning, protein treatments... as well as making sure to not overprocess and stretching my relaxers, my whole life has changed where my hair is concerned. Now I have hope that my hair actually can grow down my back!!! :lick:

I found this board in July 07. My hair was breaking off and very thin and I didn't know what to do. Now I am newly natural and my hair is very healthy and strong.

I really like this board. Sometimes I feel as though I get lost around here there's so much stuff. Nice people, great info.

I found Nappturality back in 2003 and attempted to transition but didn't follow through. I later found BHM and then LHCF in 2005. My hair started making progress after being here for a year but then I decided to BC so I started all over. My hair has been doing well since my bc though.

I've been here about 1 1/2 years and I saw results almost immediately. I did'nt know anything about moisturizing, so when I got started with that my hair really improved.
I'm around apl now and have no doubt that I will reach bsl by the end of the year.

its been less than four months for me but my hair is softer and thicker than its every been. i now use the right oils for my hair and i deep condition once sometimes twice a week and i co wash. i see some growth as well. so im good to go so far. it seems much longer than it really has been.

this is my one year anniversary here at lhcf. i found yall through round brush hair i had to pick my jaw up off of the keyboard. then i saw her fotki and i had to pick my jaw up off the f-ing floor. i read through all of her comments all of her captions i just had to get all of the information i could lhcf kept poping up so i googled it and found all of you lovely ladies :)

thank you guys for changing my life

I think I stumbled onto this site searching for something else on google. I now spend to much time here. Can't remember what I was searching for. At any rate that was early April. I remember finding another board a few years prior again I don't recall what I was searching for. At that time on that board Surge was getting rave reviews so I ran out and bought it did not stick with it and could not find the board again. So I hit the library and found Cathy House book and read. Thought this woman was crazy (long hair and all :ohwell:). Moisture? Wet my hair often? Woman I am black with nappy hair.

Since being here I have seen major improvement in my hair. Now Cathy's book makes sense. The best experience for me was getting rid of my Sebhorric Dermatis using MN. That thing plagued me for years. I only used MN consistently for 2 weeks. The next best thing was understanding the moisture protein balance. I have learned that my hair was dry and need more moisture. I am slowly researching and fine tuning my regimen. I am 9 weeks post and I can actually comb my new growth, with little or no breakage or shedding unheard of for me before LHCF. I am stretching for as long as possible paying close attention so I don't experience breakage. I have also stopped using shampoo and only conditioner wash. I am washing twice a week and deep conditioning. My hair is responding well to this. I am contemplating daily washes. I have to figure out how I would wear my hair. I have temple issues so bunning is a challenge. Perhaps I can find a wig that flatters me. I am very happy thus far.
Thanks to all.

I learned about LHCF from another member (Rabia Elaine) when I was a member on another site for Black Brides. I signed up in January but didn't start posting until February. My hair was severely damaged from a bad relaxer and sew-in that I got in Nov. '07 for my wedding. When I returned to the stylist, she said that my hair was damaged and I should shave it and start from scratch. :perplexed I have learned so much since I've been here.My hair has improved without doing a BC. I even decided to transition to natural. Thanks to my natural sisters, I know now that my natural hair can grow long.:look:

I love LHCF!

I found this site back in March. I had just did my BC, and needed to know how to take care of natural hair. I hadn't been natural since jr high school.

I was roaming around in the Nappturality site before I found this one. I had planed on joining that forum till I read a thread about chemicals in hair. I didn't agree with some of the negative opinions about people that put chemical s of any type in their hair. So, I left that site and have not been back.

Anywho...I was reading someones blog one day, that said they were a member here and how their hair progress had done so well. I came, I lurked, and then I joined

My hair has thanked me everyday since.....It wants me to thank all the women on LHCF for all the information and inspiration you have given me.:worship2:

I found LHCF in jan 2006. My hair was growing already but this site gave me the boost I needed to keep the hair on my head instead of growing it out and letting it break off again.
This is wear I learned about cowashing and protein/moisture balance. These two things alone are the main reason why my hair is longer than it has ever been.:yep:

originally joined lhcf as a neck length relaxed head in july 2004 (under the name "tasteslikemusic") before it was a subscription site

re-joined with my current name in july 2005 and lurked for a while before becoming a paid member

chopped my relaxer off in november 2005
shaved it off (almost bald) in march/april 2006 (it was like 2 am on march 31st...haha...so we'll just say april since it was after midnight)

now, my bottom layer is trying to make it's way past my armpit

I came here in the summer in '05 while I was doing a study abroad program in Brazil. Before coming to hair boards I would let any and everyone play in my hair because I felt they could so much more than I could with it. I have really really thick hair that no one really wants to mess with.:nono:I had it at a great length in college, almost past APL until I let too many people dabble roughly with relaxer applications and styling.......I just didnt know. What killed my hair was getting highlights.....strand after strand broke off until I had hair almost touching shoulder-length. That really depressed me.......to go from long to short like that.

So I was in Brazil and left to my own devices so I sought out info online.....there was plenty. I stumbled on this and BHM. I learned the basics and the terms.:yep: I really didnt get serious with my hair until about a year ago when I stopped going to a stylist and I learned that I can do my hair my doggone self.:look: I aint saying it's perfect or stellar but it's doing much better and its growing.

Well I've only been a member of LHCF since Jan this year. Although I've found other boards along the way within the same month, my heart lives within LHCF.

My hair was texturized, and after doing a very short transition, I became natural and have been loving the journey thus far. I do read other boards and all, mainly for the different info pertaining to natural hair and yet still to this day, there's more to be learned.

But LHCF will always be my playground!I
LHCF!!

I found bhm in March of 08 and lhcf a couple of weeks or months after. I saw results right away. I was stretching my hair (mostly because I couldn't find my hair stylist) and I was taking biotin and leaving my hair up and when I finally got a touch up my hair was longer, fuller, and I was hooked.

I decided to join lhcf in december 07 because I thought they was going to go up on the joining fee for the New Year and I was interested in the other boards on the forum.

Well I lucked upon BHM after doing a yahoo search on blk dermatologist in the Houston area for my daughter in Nov 07. After reading about the Dr., I started browsing and was intrigued by what I was reading. Later heard about this site from there and started lurking.

At the time, I had been growing out my BC hair for 2yrs. I really didn't realize that I was doing anything wrong to my hair. I just thought that I could handle it the same way I did when I had a BC..

So when I was racking through my hair in the shower w/no condish and removing fistfuls of hair from my comb, I just chalked it up as natural shedding. Never dawned on me that I was literally pulling my hair out.:wallbash:..

My hair was also brittle b/c I didn't moisturize and only applied African Pride grease to my hair/scalp. My hairline also showed increased breakage as a result of wearing TIGHT silk headbands in order to accentuate my hair.

I officially started my better hair journey at the end of Dec and started noticing major improvement in Mar 08.

I still have a lot to learn. But who would have thought that a rash on my daughter's leg that wouldn't clear up led my to this  :)

i've been here for less than a year, also other hair boards. i'm more mindful of how i comb my hair now, but other than that i don't think the condition of my hair has improved. i think my hair just is what it is. but i like talking hair and somewhere deep inside i guess i keep some hope that my hair could be made easier or better in some way, so i stay.

Mwedzi, your hair is beautiful in all it's glory. Trust me.

I've been lurking since 2006 sometime. I'm fairly open-minded but I still like to have a visual. I'm results-oriented so the first place I went to were the photo albums and.....my oh my!
I was hooked after that.
But I wasn't ready to take on the hair challenge until April of 2008. I've been studying and trying to understand different concepts.

I stay here because LCHF are the most knowledgeable.
Period. I've been to other hair boards and they always reference THIS site. Plus everyone's cool....I like everyone in here.

I lurked on Nappturality too.
LOL
But it was too much.
I'll just say this: .after I saw a thread 'forbidding' (yes 'forbidding') members from posting any sort of straight haired (relaxed, texlaxed, flat-ironed, hot-combed)pics I skedaddled my little relaxed head on out of there!
LOL

Some of those females are just 'thowed off'.
I can't be dealing with 'throwed off' ppl. If you're so extreme in your 'anti relaxer' stance that the sight of sig/avi pic of a poster with straightened hair is enough to give you a freakin conniption--then honey, you need Jesus
(and the help of a licensed professional.)

Anyway
My hair always appeared decent because I can mask some hair problems with the best of them.
But I can't list all the things that I've learned but they've helped me for the better.

However my personal raves: COWASHES,
Henna/Ayurvedic products
