Personally I think 5 weeks at a time is best for my hair to avoid it drying out from the lack of PROPER even moisture. I am relaxed and when I left a sew-in in my hair for 10-12 weeks at a time, I ended up with damaged hair. Never again. I will stick with braids, wigs and cornrows from here on in. My braids stylist does not braid tight at all and the braids last a while, the usual 6-8 weeks. I can care for my hair better with these protective styling methods than weaves. I really like how they look but I can get those looks with wigs anyway.
Good luck OP in finding the right balance of time for your sew-in.
