when i used to pay to get them done, about three months....now that i do them myself...well, the possibilities are endless!!! but i shoot for AT LEAST a month! :D

It depends on what type of braids I have in. Cornrows-2 to 3 weeks, kinky twists 2 months, combo cornrow/singles 1 month. My hair grows fast so I can't keep certain braids in for long.

micro braids and two strand twists... 2-2 1/2 months... MAYBE 3 months... i went about 3 1/2 months once and it was hell taking them out. My hair was starting to lock together like dreads.

1-2 months I can't keep them in longer than that because the new growth comes in fast. I'm cutting down to 1-1.5 months now though so i won't have a tangled hott mess when I take them down.

Well I do my own hair. So round the month mark, I do a semi-retouch of the braids, which makes the whole thing look freshly done. Once I take them out, I do a protein tx, weekly deep conditioning, and let my hair "breathe" for a few months. It helps me not to be board w/ my look, and I can safely experiment w/ color.

aj, your hair looks GREAT!!! what type of hair is that, i love it!!!!

I try to keep them in for 2 months but get tired of them after about 6 weeks. I have braids now and I will hit the two month mark in September. So I am holding on by a thread now

Cornrows- 1-2 Weeks
New growth starts showing through too soon to leave in longer

Individuals- 6-8 weeks
I get tired of them by the 5th week, and my new growth starts coming in and showing, but I do my best to keep them in a little longer.

i've only just started experimenting with braids again...the longest i have gone is 3months but i will try 2 months this time round.

100% Kanekalon. It acts like human hair, curls, w/ cold or hot rollers, straightens, crimps ect. w/out all the shedding, and freaking out from humidity. Plus it's only $2 per pack :)

For those that's using synthetic hair. What are you using to keep the moisture in your hair. I'm using MTG for my scalp, but it seems that the hair never stays moisturized even though the MTG is oily. Any suggestions.:ohwell:

I usually get box braids with synthetic hair, and I leave them in for 3 months. I have gone as far as 4 months. I experience no problems, breakage, undue tangling or matting, etc., when I take them down. :)

Sirena, I use Luster's Curl Activator to moisturize my braids and scalp. It comes in a white bottle with blue lettering. It works really well for me. Whenever I take down the braids my hair feels very soft and moisturized. HTH.

When I get my hair cornrowed I had them about 2 weeks. The one time I got individuals I had them for a month.

Sirena922 try using Wild growth hair oil on your roots to moisturize it. i keep braids in for 2-3 months and usually they feel dry i noticed that once before braiding i put some wgho on each root and comb not only it helps detangle my nappy hair before braiding but without putting any back i notice if you remove the braids stay moist you could even put wgho once a week after you wash the hair or now that i use the mtg what i do is i mix it with some huile masketi castor oil to keep my hair moisturized and shampoo once a week

Uhmm...

I have done twelve months straight in the past and I'm going on 8 mths now with the set I have on. I do touch up my braids continually though, so I guess technically it's not really 8 mths straight. Guess what I'm trying to say is once I have the braids in, I never take them all out. I just redo one at a time every now and then. So my braids stay neat all the time, and I don't have to worry about the base matting or them swinging painfully along the edges.

Oh and I don't remember if you asked this, but I don't use any type of leave-in per se. Instead I just wash my hair whenever it feels dry (sometimes I just condition wash) and then often spray it with a concoction of ACV, distilled water, glycerin and essential oils. This I find also helps with preventing matting at the base of the braids and I can easily undo my hair with my fingers. I don't seem to experience much in way of dryness. This is more or less the regimen I used to use before discovering hair forums: "when hair feels dry, it's time to wash" (water is my friend) - Learned this from Brenda of blackwomenrejoice.com

the longest i've left my cornrows in for is 4 weeks due to new growth. i don't wear individuals, the time spent putting them in and taking them out doesnt add up because i cant keep them in long, 4 weeks the most

well... i go from 2-4 months...

LOL,

I'm trying not to leave it in that long again but you know what? I just do anyways... I think I'm the queen of disguising hair that needs to be done. I have all these tricks that prolly no one's ever thought of so... :)

Till my hair gets to the length I want it at, Imma keep on doin the damn thing.
