how long do you have to pre pop with oils for it to be affective?

I am pre pooing with coconut, castor, and glycerin. I plan to sit under the dryer for 30 min. I was wondering because I read that it takes at least 6 hours for oil to penetrate the hair shaft. Thanks

I leave coconut oil on my hair overnight I never apply on the day I'm planning on washing my hair
For the reasons you stated regarding penetration of the oils

im learning here...

i used to leave it like 1,2 hours.
maymbe next time i Will do overnight.

ladies , doesnt it drip all over the pillow? or smell? what do you cover your head With?

My old jar of coconut oil had instructions for a pre wash treatment. It stated to use one hour before washing.

All day since I wash usually at night. If I don't have at least 11 hours to prepoo I use a DCer (a reconstructor most times).

I put on a couple of plastic caps and then I put a towel over my pillow.

Prepoo with oil = overnight

Prepoo with conditioner = 1-3 hours depending on how much time I have

I thought glycerin needed to be mixed with water to moisturize. I don't know if there is any benefit if its mixed with oil.

A hour to overnight.

I only prepoo'ed for 2 hours today and my hair felt awesome. For me, it deepens on my laziness level. If I'm feeling productive, 1-3 hours. If I'm feeling extra sluggish, overnight.

As a pre-poo? I would say an hour minimum...especially if you are using coconut oil. Overnight will probably get you better and deeper penetration since you are doing it on dirty hair.

Lately I've been using aloe vera juice and coconut oil as a prepoo and an hour feels just the same as overnight. Sometimes I'll add conditioner to the mix and if so, I'll add an extra hour or so. Now if I have freshly washed and clean hair then I will only use deep conditioner and leave that bad boy on overnight. Whew...moisture for dayyyyyyyys!

A lot of my regimen is based using traditional Indian/Ayurvedic oils, essential oils, and herbs. Most directions I've come across recommend an overnight oil soak prior to washing the hair (or as long as possible if you can't do overnight). I use coconut oil most often, but also avocado, mustard oil, and olive.

To keep it off the pillows I put on 2 plastic caps, then a plastic grocery bag, and my Turbie Twist. Cover pillow with old towel.
