i have my jar at home still mostly full. Ive had it for 4 months...and i know after a couple of months it tends to lose its properties after its opened. I just hate to throw out all that good oil....so how long do u stretch out ur time til u actually get rid of it?...any 5+ month violators?

I never knew that. I've had mine for a good 1 year+ because I opened it and then left it under my bathroom sink and I just starting using it again:perplexed

its almost done (will be done it about a week)

but now I know!!!!

i got that info from a guy that works in the vitamin shop a long time ago. And i think i read it somewhere too. hopefully someone can confirm if this has any truth to it cuz for the past yr. Ive been dumping mine after 4 months

Coconut and jojoba oils are 2 oils that won't go rancid easily. I've had some coconut for over a a year and it was good.

:look: I think he just wanted you in there more often, buying more oil. I don't think I've ever used up a thing of coconut oil in under 6 months.

I love using mine as a body oil. I haven't been making smoothies, so....:lachen:It is also good as a pre poo or as I call it, a conditioner strengthener.:gorgeous:

I dont even use lotion anymore... when I get out of the shower I seal both my hair & skin with coconut oil

hmm, yeah I never heard that it had an expiration either. I guess as long as ity hasnt turned black...then again the very last few tbsps of my last jar turned black and cheapie that I am, I still used it... no problem.

well since everyone has been keeping their coconut oil around for a while, then so will I...i'm not going to get rid of mine then.

:perplexed <runs to throw out my 16+ month old coconut oil>

I'm pretty sure that would apply only for internal use and cooking with it

I do the same. Its been working well for my hair and body. I've had my jar for months, and haven't noticed any difference.

I always understood that coconut oil has a 2 year shelf life.

Does anyone keep their oil in the fridge? It's been pretty warm in my kitchen, and last time most of it melted into oil.

Well as long as mine still smells yummy, I'm usin' it. Coconut oil is too expensive to just chuck after a few months and if I find that I've had it too long, I would find all kinds of innovative ways to use it up, like my on skin, pre-poo, seal in my moisturizers with it, add to my ayurveda powder mixes and henna, add to my deep conditioners, hot oil treat my hair with it, you know......there's so much that can be done with it.
