I'm getting my hair pressed tomorrow for a job interview Saturday. Is it going to hold up or should I choose a different style option? (I'm 4b natural.)

To preserve my press/flat iron, I lightly oil my hair at night. I sleep in rollers, a wrap or pincurls.

When I shower I pile on like 4 plastic caps  It's best for me to be in a wrap at shower time (if you are wrapping challenged like me, try looking up cross wrapping)

If it's raining, I wear my hair up.

You should be able to preserve it at least a week :yep:

I usually wear my presses about 2 weeks. And I've worn one for a lil over 3 weeks before, too.

Keeping it straight involved:

-Light workout sessions involving no sweat (can't run on the treadmill, and perspire even the slightest amount cuz even that would cause my roots to puff up)

-Putting a scarf on my hair before showering, and a good tight showercap on over the scarf

-Staying out of hot places that would make me perspire any

-Making sure I have an umbrella at all times

-Lightly bumping the roots of my hair with my flat iron on low heat if they started to show signs of reverting, and/or tying my hair down kind of tightly with my satin scarf at night to "flatten down" the hair if it was showing signs of starting to "poof up".

-Making sure I have a ponytail holder and shower cap(s) at all times. I must avoid rain, drizzle and FOG. Fog, humidity and "misty air" will revert my hair with a QUICKNESS. If it's foggy outside, I would put on a shower cap and walk from my house to my car (and take it off in the car). I would do the same thing going from my car to the door at my job. I used to cover my hair only when it was raining, but I noticed just how quickly my hair would turn into a HUGE poofball within minutes of exposure to fog...it's just that serious for me. (Wow, this really sounds crazy that I even have to do this, as I am reading what I am typing lol! :spinning: )

Anyways, you should have no problem maintaing your press til Saturday, and beyond, if you want to keep it in. :yep:

Good luck on your interview!

I use to wear my presses for a half a day-if I was lucky!!! :lachen:
Seriously, a good press should last at least 5-7 days. If you curl your hair at night, or pincurl, your curls will last a little longer. Just make sure to tie your hair up at night.

five to seven days

This was the case with my professional flat-iron. It was super duper straight, I lightly oiled it into day 3 or 4, covered it at night and when taking baths, etc., but what got me is I didn't realize that I perspire at night and in of all places, the nape area, by day 5 it was ova with the nape, it was like a little afro:lol:. By day seven :dead:. It was funny too becuz overall my roots stayed straight, it was the ends that started getting frizzy all over. It was so worth it though, I loved the feeling of hair on my back and shoulders:yep:.

(Just to add on to some of the advice already given...) when it starts getting a little too poofy, you could bantu knot it, cornrow, or plait it in about 6 braids overnight and then do a braidout or bantu knot out for a couple of days and you could have a nice wavy look. I am starting to do this whenever I flat iron my hair and its starting to get poofy. It helps because I dont have to reapply heat to get another style.
