How long did your divorce take to be final?

Did you have an attorney or did you file on your own through the courthouse?
How long did it take you from your file date to be final?..especially if uncontested.

I used an attorney who was most defiantly worth every penny, it was uncontested, and from filing to receiving the final divorce decree, it took approximately less than 3 months.

from the time of filling to final, 23 hrs. From the time of giving that mfer the papers and getting them signed about 4 months

In my state we had to wait the 60days after the temporary order. He did move the temporary hearing and tried to move the final date hearing. That's the only reason it took a month longer. We had been officially separated 3mths prior...and the only reason I waited 3mths was because I moved to another county and wanted to file there (you have to have lived there for 90 days to file in the court).

I dunno. I am still waiting. I was served papers 5.20 and so hopefully soon. I don't wanna be Mrs. _ _ _ _ _ _ anymore.

After he finally signed the darn documents it was less than 30 days. I did it all on my own.

We would have been divorced in a little over 90 days if the Ex would have signed right away. He dragged it out to the point that I didn't need his signature any more then he signed; 24 months.

I did everything on my own.

I can't recall because of the circumstances he had to be tracked down. My ex was in the military and the last known address I had for him was on the Navy base. In between the time he'd gotten out of the military but was still in the area (I verified this by searching online). I then found an address for him and gave it to my attorney. They served him in Atlanta but the person who answered the door said he was not there (I later found out this was a lie).

After no response from the dude, the ad had to run in the Atlanta Journal Constitution for 30 days. After that he didn't have a say so in contesting or not. Like my attorney told me "it takes two to marry but only one to get a divorce". All that too say in my case it too TOO long. lol

Are divorces expensive? I see older folks still married but living single lives in seperate households.

Kinda- the range in my state was $1500 and up, they can get very costly depending on the circumstances. Especially if they are contested and go to court.

Well, so far mine is about to hit 4k...And that's just my stbx's portion. I'll let ya'll know when I'm done...

About $450, if that bastard would have just signed the paperwork, it would have cost me $95. Stupid bastard I hate him.

Ladybelle, I'm not making it too public notice yet because it's still on going. I'll discuss it after it's all said and done. We're in to it almost 3 months so far.

:lol::lol: I would have never guessed you didn't like him.

I understand. I kept mine private too for various reasons. Although I've been through it, I'm not sure what to say other than I wish you the best. (((hugs)))).

Since everyone else is being so transparent, mine cost me right at 4k. My ex took forever to sign the dayum papers, we almost went to court, I had to petition the court for temporary child support and other things that were completely unneccessary and could have saved us both a lot of money. But, it was worth every daggone penny & I would have paid twice as much had it been neccessary.

Ladybelle, that's just what I had to do, hence it being at 4k so far! We settled in the courtroom for the temp stuff. My lawyers don't see us being done until some time next yr.
Thanks, msdr.

It would not have been so bad if he had not slept with one of my friends while he was refusing to sign the paperwork. Ugh men slay me.

Mine was a little over 2k. We didn't have kids so, there wasn't that much to 'hash' out besides property division.

godzooki, I am sorry you're going through this. We are all here for you. (((HUGS)))

I forgot to mention, I did not pay for a lawyer. I am waiting for my papers to be sent in the mail.

 oh, I understand. :nono: That's cold.

oh and one lil tidbit he signed the paperwork the day before I went to the lawyer and had him served. He KNEW I was going to the lawyer that day, he didn't tell me he signed the paperwork. The day I had him served he had the signed paperwork in my mailbox. He was just being spiteful little *****!
