How long did your divorce take to be final?

Did you have an attorney or did you file on your own through the courthouse?
How long did it take you from your file date to be final?..especially if uncontested.

I signed the papers June 6, 2011 and he didn't sign until a week later. Then he gave me some BS excuse that I knew was a lie as to why he didn't sign.

The papers were filed shortly after he signed, I believe on June 22, if I'm not mistaken. The divorce was finalized on July 27, 2011. They e-mailed him a copy of the decree and he forwarded it to me. I didn't pay for anything; him and his family ate the cost.

I can't recall because of the circumstances he had to be tracked down. My ex was in the military and the last known address I had for him was on the Navy base. In between the time he'd gotten out of the military but was still in the area (I verified this by searching online). I then found an address for him and gave it to my attorney. They served him in Atlanta but the person who answered the door said he was not there (I later found out this was a lie).

After no response from the dude, the ad had to run in the Atlanta Journal Constitution for 30 days. After that he didn't have a say so in contesting or not. Like my attorney told me "it takes two to marry but only one to get a divorce". All that too say in my case it too TOO long. lol

@1st bolded, what ad?
@ 2nd bolded, isn't that something?

I'm sorry you had to go through all that.

It would not have been so bad if he had not slept with one of my friends while he was refusing to sign the paperwork. Ugh men slay me.

Wow.....that is crazy! He's wack for that!

oh and one lil tidbit he signed the paperwork the day before I went to the lawyer and had him served. He KNEW I was going to the lawyer that day, he didn't tell me he signed the paperwork. The day I had him served he had the signed paperwork in my mailbox. He was just being spiteful little *****!

That's some b@!#h%a$$ness right there...I am seeing though that the common denominator in all of our stories are that we want it to be over and it's them who take a long time to sign. Always them....sore losers!

uncontested
took about 2 mos (if that long, I want to say it was less)
cheap- $25 to file $25 to have him served
I did it all on my own

I went to court on Monday and I think we should be officially divorced before the year ends! WOOFRIGGINHOO!

How to taking 6 years to divorce and spending close to 1 million dollars. Yeah I won't say who in my family but it was a hot mess.

I have a friend who is heading toward her 4th yr...They're inching toward that million mark too....So far I'm at just over a yr...Sigh...

shortycocoa I am JUST seeing this. The ad (or posting) was in the "legal" section of the paper. I'm not sure what its specifically called. They just had to run the notification that I was seeking a divorce. Just in case he saw it and wanted to
Contest it.

it takes a long time, Its three months now and we are nowwhere near the end. My lawyer said it would probably be over by the end of they year so far it has cost me 2,000.00. Waiting for the next bill to come through. I really hope its not more then four. I am really upset that it has cost me 2.

wait what???? :nono:

Yes....And....They are still at it....No joke...As for me, we just did two days of marathon pre court mediation. Day one was 7 hours straight and day two was 13 and a half hours straight!!!!!:ohwell: Good thing is we finally signed off on everything and if all goes well, I should be officially divorced by the end of Jan/Feb of 2013!!!

Here's the sad part...It took a year and a half of him being an ***, telling me he was not going to pay ANY alimony, blah blah blah to end up giving me pretty much what I wanted anyway... Total cost of divorce for me...$400...Total cost for him...Over $13K (yes, thousand!!). And I mean as in his own lawyer/court fees...He could have saved that money but, he thought he had it in the bag and that I was going to just walk off into the sunset with nothing. Oh, and you bet, the entire year and a half it took just to finalize and fight over everything was with court ordered alimony/spousal/child support on his part (The Pendente Lite was the first thing I did).

Don't ever tell a woman with 4 kids and a 21 year marriage in the can to 'suck it up and move on" with "nothing"... Turns them into Bull Dogs!
