How important is pre-poo?

Hi to all I am really in the process of trying to cut back and keep things simple. I find that pre pooing take up to much time and money. I was wondering who here does not pre-poo and if they have have they noticed that big of a change? I need answers from both naturals and relaxed. Is ths a step in the healthy hair journey that I can skip. Thanks in advance

I don't think they are that important...well not to me anymore. I used to pre-poo out of habit and because I NEVER used oils or anything like that. But now that I'm moisturizing on a daily basis it's like I'm pre-pooing all week anyway. I'm gonna go without pre-pooing and see how my hair reacts to it.

It's not important for me AT ALL. I use Keracare Hydrating Poo, which moisturizes, so I don't need to pre-poo. When I use my light protein, I use it after I wash.

As far as relaxed heads go, i think pre-pooing is most beneficial as you gain new growth, but in general it definitely helps keep my strands looking and feeling great!:)

i used to do it, but then i stopped out of laziness. i don't really see a difference at all. instead i just deep condition every time i shampoo and keep my hair moisturized inbetween time.

I pre-poo, but I don't feel it is necessary to maintain healthy hair. I do it for extra conditioning and protection. To save money, I pre-poo with free samples, items from product swaps, or drugstore brands. And if I am in a rush I have no problem skipping that step.

I don't think that pre -poos are super important or mandatory, but I like the way my hair feels when I do them. I actually started pre-pooing before I joined hair boards, so I'm probably do it more out of habit than anything else.

I pre-poo using Suave Naturals, hair mayo, or other protein of the day. When I tried to move straight to the poo phase, my relaxed 4a/4b hair felt stiff and unruly. I knew that if I wanted soft hair, this is what I HAVE to do!!!

I never pre-poo.

I "deep condition" for 45 min to an hour each time I wash my hair by warming my conditoner and putting my hair full of conditoner into a plastic cap and then wrapping it all with a how towel, fresh from the dryer. It gives me enough softness without adding an extra step.

I always pre-poo- my hair loves it and so do it- i still deep condition for 45 mins to an hour. For me it is mandatory. My hair is naturally dry and needs all of the extra help it can get.

Pre-pooing is not necessary, at all. :nono: I'll do it, sometimes, especially, if I'm trying to use up a product.

I don't think it's mandatory, but my hair feels a little softer when I do it.

If I have time, I do it. If I don't, no biggie.

I just recently started pre-pooing and so far it is necessary. I prepoo w/ WGO or coconut oil and its like a deep conditioning treatment that I don't have to sit under the dryer for. Also, I don't like moisturizing my hair on non-wash days b/c of the heaviness. I find that prepooing has been giving me the benefits of moisture locked in w/o being heavy

Wow, I've never used a towel out of the dryer. I'm going to have to try that next time, thanks!

Sorry so late responding back. Thank you all for your responses. I have been pre pooing ever since I have found out about it and will try my next wash without a pre poo and see how my hair reacts.

My hair does always come out nice and soft when I do it. I will also try the tip that you gave carmella.

Wow, this advice is heaven sent. I found that when using a hot wet towel, it was difficult to keep the hot towel hot, even with a plastic cap on over it. :ohwell:

This way sounds nice and toasty and dryer too! :yep:

The only time I prepoo is when I want to deep condition and don't have time to do it in the day, so I'll apply at night and sleep on it. Other than that, I don't really do it.

I really dont pre-poo either. I use to do it but I stopped and my hair didn't react any differently from not doing. I would say it optional.

I stopped doing pre-shampoo treatments a long time ago. Even when I did do them, I only did them a short time.

I don't do it. There have been times I left a conditioner in my hair overnight and then washed in the morning. But the purpose was a deep conditioner, not really a "pre-poo". I have also, at times, put conditioner on my ends directly before shampooing. But it's not my usual way.

I don't always do it now but I'm getting back to it. When I pre-poo with oil, my hair comes out softer. So for my coarse hair it really helps more-so with oils than with conditioner. So I just toss some oil in and baggy it and keep doing regular chores. And sometimes I would do it before I went to the beauty shop. My aunt is my beautician so she puts up w/ me but she jokes that I'm clogging up her sink. But whenever I would do it and she would give me a roller wrap, my hair would have so much more bounce and shine.

I do it simply because I don't have time to wash my hair while in the shower, deep conditioner for about 30 minutes, then hop right back in the shower. While it's important to me in some ways, it's also not that important to me to go to extremes (as described above) to get it done.

In my opinion and from what I have observed....There is no universal truth to prepooing...it depends on the state of your hair and the way you wore your hair before doing your wash routine....For example:

Flow & Go Straight Wrap with light products - you may want to prepoo

Protective Style with daily moisturizing and oils - not really necessary because you have been essentially "prepooing all week"

IMO Prepooing is more important for relaxed heads than naturals as ladies with relaxers tend to put less oils and moisturizers in their hair throughout the week....so that extra umph might help...or for naturals who arent grease monkeys

For me, I tend to deep condition first to help detangle my hair after twist-outs or braids...so I pre-poo kinda :perplexed
