I voted (alot). I know I can grow my hair to BSL or beyond but I didn't know how to get it beyond shoulder length because of breakage. I have been in this endless cycle of grow it just beyond the shoulder, then it would break, cut it even & start over. Finding this board has taught me how to keep my ends moisturized & ends sealed with oils and wear protective styles so that I can retain the length and get to my goals. Also doing CO washes- something so simple I never even considered just washing my hair with conditioners- and boy what a difference it makes! I am very thankful to have found LHCF!

i am soooo in love with LHCF because it has taught me so much. there is alot of misinformation about black haircare. Professional stylists don't even know alot of the information that is on our board:perplexed

I say some what...

I always knew that women of color could achieve long length even with chemicals, but I had never had really long hair.

I say some what, because my hair is the thinnest it's been in my life because I was trying some of the gimmicks, CW, this-that and the other, etc that has been mentioned on the boards. I find that some tips should be taken with a grain of salt and I have to figure out which ones are more "important" to helping me gain the length I want.

AND I've met some great, beautiful women who are so willing to help!

TOTAL TRANSFORMATION in my thinking and I'm working on my behaviors as well....

Even though my entrance to the hair boards was through my decision to transition out of relaxers, I have learned SO MUCH about hair and health. This board in particular has increased my knowledge about the relaxing and maintenance process to the point where I can say that if I had known even a couple of the techniques related to relaxing, I might not have decided to transition. However, the end of relaxing would have happened for me anyway.

I'm glad to learn and continue to learn about hair and to be able to ask questions and get some valid, helpful information.

I voted somewhat. I knew plenty of black women with long hair, but I was too scared to approach them about their hair care. Even when I used to go to the salon, I would always ask questions about why certain products were used on my hair and what I should use at home to get the same look. But I am glad that I found hair boards, because I've learned so much and continue to learn something every day.

I knew it could be done, it was just a matter of "how"... before discovering LHCF and other boards, when I approached longhaired women and asked how they grew their hair so long it was always "I don't do anything to it" and while that may be partially true... there was more to the calculation :brainy:

A lot.
Before I thought it just didn't grow past shoulder length because of 'normal breakage'. I thought it just broke. I didn't attribute it to hair neglect.
I thought I 'had' to get a relaxer every 3 months, because of the curly roots. I didn't know why I had to, I just had to.
Visiting sites such as these taught me that my hair never grew because I can't take care of relaxed hair (refused to wear protective styles, blow fried every week to a few times a week) and constantly overlapped relaxers.
Now I know the only thing I have to do to have long hair is wait, and look after my hair.

Well supposedly I'm consuming the carrots a lot. But yea, for the first time in my life, I LOVE my hair. I will love it even more once it reaches APL and beyond. Who would have known that MY hair could grow long!?!

I vote somewhat because I'm still doing the same thing I was doing before LHCF.

I think now I will try to do new things with my hair once it reach a good length for me to play in.

I want to try to roller-set my hair i think i will like it.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I voted "a lot". Before finding these hair boards, I would've never even had hope to reach bra-strap. My hair has never been past shoulder length and now I believe that it can.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

ok, i didn't understand the poll. what's "consuming the carrots"? i don't get it. since i thought you were talking about real carrots, i voted not at all cause i do not like carrots at all.

right before coming here, i knew about haircare i read that Shamboosie book. It explained everything to me. Before that though, i though i had to be bless with long hair genes to have long hair either that or go to the salon every week. my hair's never been past my neck my whole life. i can't wait for it to be shoulder length. i'm almost there!

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

i always knew that i had the ability to grow long hair because i had it as a child and as an adult. But the hairboards have really help me step up my game. I have established some great friendships and learned a wealth of knowledge about products and techniques. I am finally getting into protective styling like i should and will not be wearing my hair out this winter. I have seen a lot of progress lately.

ive learned soooooo much about hair since I have been here. And I also never thought black women could have WL hair. Prior to joining this board I always thought that you had to be mixed to have long hair and since I'm not I basically figured it was useless to try to grow my hair. I have made any progress yet but I am on my way.:)

Being a lurker and then now a member, I am more paranoid about my hair, my ends, how I classify my hair..etc. I see so many posts that TO ME emphasize that your hair isn't "XYZ" unless it looks "ABC" that now I don't have as much hair confidence as I did before reading hair boards. I'm quicker to put it in a bun than wear it down now. So at least it encourages me to do protective styles. :ohwell:

LHCF has been a huge blessing!I prayed and ask God to PULEEEZE somehow let me grow long, beautiful hair (1 Cor. 11:15). Well first I found Robin's site www.growafrohairlong.com and then this forum. I honestly do not know HOW I found LHCF! I just ended up here. I've grown almost 2 inches in the past 5 '1/2 weeks:eek: thanks to hair vits and MTG (home made). Not only that but I learned how to comb me and my daughter's hair, the right type of brush to use and how to use it without causing damage. My girls don't cry anymore when I comb their hair and Kayla's hair is finally growing past shoulder lenght unstretched. Angel is brastrap length unstretched (well, she doesn't wear a bra LOL she's only 8!!! but you know what I mean).

I am so very greatful I found (or should I say was "led";) ) to this forum.

Before finding hair sites I just wanted long hair, but after finding LHCF I discovered that black women can grow their hair long even to their waist. I have always been told by my mother that black women can only grow their hair to their shoulder and anything past that is definetely a weave or they are mixed. But now I have found out that even I can grow my hair to my waist( if I take care of it).

thanks LHCF!

Sites like LHCF has changed my perception of my hair and black women's hair in general. I begun my comittment to hair care just six weeks ago, and it's already paying off. Thanks to product and technique tips, my hair sheds and breaks a lot less, isn't as dry/rough, and my new growth is more manageable.

I have seen black women with long hair and I have had BSL length in the past, so no, hair boards have not altered my mindset. The only thing that surprised me was the creative ways that it could be done.

I'd have to say that coming to LHCF has confirmed the processes and products I was using were actually healthy for my hair. I've always believed that the key to healthy hair and the key to hair growth is tied to keeping your hair moisturized. It was good to know that others were doing the same and achieving great results as well. It also enlightened me on other techniques/products for hair health--further encouraging my PJism.

 I don't know where that poll came from!! :wasntme:
I created this thread with a totally different poll, as you can read from the earlier posts. This seems to happen with older threads that have a poll. An unrelated poll pops up in its place.

Prayer is so powerful! That's how I ended up on the Relaxed Hair forum and LHCF shortly after. I prayed for a way to restore my hair's health, without using heat. I too felt I was "led" here and learned how to rollerset instead of blowdry and how to do protective styles for the first time.

My perception has changed a lot. I was always told that black women cannot grow long hair. I was told all the old myths about cutting to make it grow, and growing hands, and don't wash your hair too much or it will break off, etc.

I am so glad that there are these boards to educate more of us about the possibilities open to us.

Softresses

This board has changed my perceptions SO much. My hair had been short for so long, I had never even considered having hair past my shoulders. But now that I know how to care for it (and to stop having a stylist cut off 2 in. every 6 weeks!), I really think that I can have shoulder length or longer hair - for the first time since I was in grade school.:yay:

I am 4b relaxed and I have never seen so many beautiful, long, thick and healthy heads of my hair type before.....I used to think only a "select few" got lucky....The board is so educational and informative that it is a shame that most of this stuff is had not been general knowledge for some us....if it were so many more of us would already have the hair that we desire...

OMG i'm soo thankful I found this board. It made me realize why my hair was never able to get just past my shoulders. I always thought that was just how it was. I always wanted longer hair, but didnt really know if it was possible. Before LHCF I didnt even know I had a curl pattern to my hair! I was so excited to find that out lol. After washing my hair it was always immediately blowdried (losing lots of hair) and flat ironed, so i never knew. I would like to take advantage of my curls/coils more often but I ruined a lot of it with my hair ignorance before LHCF since the last few inches of my hair are permanently straight from heat. But yea, now i'm getting off topic. Anyways i'm obsessed with hair and LHCF now lol! Done.

LHCF is truly a blessing!!! I honestly believe that if more black women knew about this board than weaves and other hair extension wouldn’t be so popular -because they’d be Far too fascinated with their own real beautiful long hair and ways on how to grow it. Black women were told they cant grown long hair unless they’re mixed therefore soo many don’t even try and start abusing it knowingly. I think there should be a commercials about theses forums ...oooor maybe not because too many folks would get fired for surfing forums while “working” :D . These boards are soo informative. Who know knew monistat had other benefits...MTG and Neosporin..
