changed your perception of your own ability to grow long, beautiful and healthy hair? Why or why not?

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

Mine has changed a lot. I am in awe of all the beautiful manes of hair I've seen so far on this board - relaxed, natural and texturized! I had no idea of what to do with my hair before. I was just going through the motions, hoping for the best. Before, I accepted hair breakage from blowdrying and other heat utensils I was abusing as a normal part of styling my hair. I now know for sure what is possible with all kinds of hair methods and hair types.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

My regimen has definately stepped up a notch. I use a lot more moisturizing products and learned how to protect my ends since they are the oldest part of my hair. Taking care of my hair is like a hobby for me (not that it wasn't before) but I have so much fun playing with it and experimenting with different products. God willing, my hair will definately grow past shoulder blades this time. The main things I've learned are 1) CO washes 2) Adjusting regimens for the season 3) Stretching out relaxers 4) Moisturizing 5) Vits

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I thought that I would have to be dependent on my stylist for all of my needs until I found this forum. I'm learning how to do everything myself now. If I hadn't found this forum...I would still be using heat...and doing other damage to my hair. My hair is so healthy now. Thanks to everyone and their contributions. Most DEF...A LOT...

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I chose a lot because, like another poster, I thought I just had to accept my hair as unhealthy, breaking, etc... but now I feel like I CAN have healthy hair, I just needed to be armed with the right information and hair products. This board got me reading books on hair and doing all types of research

, like it's an actual science. I am sooooo glad I found this board.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

My perception of my hair has done a total 360 degree turn!! I didn't think that all that I've seen could be possible! I was totally 'hair challenged'!! There are so many things that I did not know about!!! I have a developing regimen, whereas before I would probably say: "Hair regimen...what's that?" LOL

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I said alot also. Coming to the site I didn't expect it to really help me much but it has tremendously. I have surpassed my original length goal and I am now encouraged to set a even higher goal. I no longer feel like my hair is a hopeless cause.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I'll say somewhat.

My mom always knew how to care for my hair (except she used to put way too much heavy oils in it), and she passed the knowledge down to me and I kind of improved on it for my head of hair.

I've always had long healthy hair in good condition, but after reaching a few inches past brastrap I found that my ends would split and stuff. Now I'm a little past bra strap and I'm able to keep it all healthy. And now I know why the stuff works. My mom showed me what works, but never explained WHY it works.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I've learned alot by coming to this board. My hair is much healthier than it was last year. I've learned about vitamins, regimens, co washes and a lot of other stuff.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I picked Not At All.

I've always known that my hair (all hair) grows, especially when I'm not abusing it.

I've chopped a total of 3 times (first time was pre-relaxers - I was bored) just because I knew it would grow back. When I went looking for my first hair board (old blackhaircare), I basically needed help with dryness, and styling tips, for my once again natural hair, about 6-8" of it. Later, I found BHSGO, and really liked the camaraderie of the growout club, and growing my hair out intentionally seemed like a fun idea. At about the same time I found naturallycurly, and from that point on was unstoppable!

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

It hasn't changed my perception. My hair was past bra strap in the past so I know I can grow my hair long, it's just the fact that some

scissor happy stylist chopped all my hair off. What the board has helped me with is taking better care of my hair (and I'm taking PRETTY damn good care of it) because I know that woman was not looking out for the health of my hair.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I said alot because I have learned so much. Its always been in my nature to be self reliant and I hated relying on stylists when I knew in my heart a better head of hair was meant for me. I found this board at the beginning of my decision to take my hair into my own hands.

The advice and tips I have learned since becoming a member has been priceless! I am sneaking up on my hair goal. I think bra strap length for me is all I want (and can handle). I'm getting there!

Most of all I feel good knowing that I am passing all of what I learn down to my daughter so that she will be able to take of her hair when she is older and hopefully not make the same mistakes when she gets older. Lastly, becoming a member is helping me to teach her to love her beautiful, thick, 4a hair.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

It hasn't changed my perception at all. I guess because I grew up around a LOT of folks with long hair, including family members who had waistlength hair from childhood to puberty when they cut it off...

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I choose somewhat.. I never grew up with the notion of "good hair bad hair" or "black hair cant grow" so when my hair was underarm lenght an Id cut it to ear lenght I thought nothing of it. Or when I snipped my shoulder lenght bangs to above eyebrow lenght they grew back in a year. My mom was a hairdresser with long hair, an i grew up in a tiny all white farming community. The only black people I saw were on television and they all had long hair so once again I thought nothing of it.

I think the only thing the board has changed for me... is that I finally get to see the other side of the story and how most black women view there hair. Ive learned about cornrows (which I never knew exisited b4 untill 2001) I learnt about weaves. but I also learnt a little more about hair care such as how to do wraps an the benefits of sleepin in a silk scarf or silk pillow case. all of which I never did before coming to boards like this.

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

I pick not really b/c I've always taken care of my hair and discovering this board confirmed what I already knew.

However, I LOVE this board b/c it gives me a safe outlet to yap about hair and not have someone look at me like I'm

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

Ever since coming to this forum a year ago, I've learned so much about taking care of my hair the right way. Seeing other girls here with beautiful hair makes me want to grow it longer and stronger. And getting advice from everyone really helps. I love CO washes, ACV rinses and using natural oils instead of heavy grease on my hair. I know I'm on my way to a longer head of hair. Thanx, LHCF!!

My perception about my ability to grow long and healthy hair has changed a lot. Since joining this board and reading books about hair care, I discovered that it was not my lack of ability to grow long hair, but rather my lack of knowledge about taking care of my hair that was the problem.I thank God for allowing me to find this board and all of you for the wondeful tips and advice I've learned.:-)

Re: How has coming to the LHCF & other hair boards...

After visiting numerous black hair care sites I knew it was quite possible for me to have long waistlength hair. It's not even a question in my mind, I have no doubts.

Oh gosh, before I thought you had to be blessed with "HAIR GENES" to have long hair, and that my hair COULDN'T grow long. Now I am BURSTING with HAIR CONFIDENCE. I LOOOVEEEE, LOOVE LOOOVE MY HAIR NOW. I'm type 4a/b, my hair is just below my shoulders (4inches), and this is the longest it has ever been  I know that my not be long by some standards, but it is to me, and I am so happy that I found this board  PLUS get this I KNOW FOR CERTAIN that my hair WILL grow longer, and longer, and longer, and longer.......... you'll catch my drift?

I chose alot because the information on this board is priceless. Eventhough my mom took really good care of my hair it was long in length as a child but as an adult I messed it up thinking that works for everyone will work for me. This board has helped me with minimizing the heat to practically non-existence. I learned about CW-ing which I love and my hair loves it. I also learned to stretch my relaxers and moisturize my ends. All these tips have been helpful to me and my hair.

I know it IS possible to get those 6 inches in a year! growth spurts do exist. and i think using photgraphic evidence is a brilliant idea that i never thought of b4.

i cant believe how damaged my hair was, ladies believe me it was in a very very bad state. i knew i could grow it out even with damaged ends and trim it slowly from LHCF. the only negetive is that, i'm absoloutely petrified of hurting my hair now! i'm chilled with it, and dont manipulate it much, but i'm scared 2 have fun with it really, which is a bit sad.

Mine has changed totally. I thought it was all about genetics. I thought it will only grow to a certain point and then that's it. I've proved myself wrong. My hair has never been so healthy. I always have had shoulder length hair, but now I'm reaching for APL.:D

I voted a lot. Before finding LHCF I worked against my hair(not taking care of it, neglecting it,etc...) that all changed once I found LHCF(thanks a BILLION for that DigitalRain   ) I no longer work against my hair but rather with my hair. For me, there is a big difference between the two. I knew nothing about healthy hair/hair care before LHCF. I learn something beneficial each and every day I come here. Ladies thanks SO SO much for sharing through your posts, threads,pm's....w/me & others. I   the ladies of LHCF!!!!

I definately had to choose "a lot". Damn, I still kick myself for not looking into haircare years ago. I was absolutely clueless thus why I wore weaves/braids for years. I've been wearing my own hair out for under a month now and wow, has my life changed. I know that sounds whack but it's da truth! I love my lightly texturized hair....I own my new curly greaseless hairdo :) . Seeing others with my hair type/texture only fuels me to strive harder..... I want that flowing hair too and I KNOW i'll get it! I started my online album but i'm not ready to put it out there yet:lol: . I want to be an inspiration so i'm hoping in the next 4-5 months i'll be able to share and inspire at least one person.

Who knew i would absolutely love co-washes? My neice maxi-glided my hair for me on Saturday and 'supposedly' i was gonna wear my hair straight for the week. Oh hell naw....I washed my baby this am:look: I felt like my hair was begging for it!:lachen:

I always thought I could grow long hari because I have before with rollersets. This site just backed my believes up!

I voted somewhat - My hair was long prior to finding hair boards. I found the boards after I decided to discontinue getting relaxers. That is when I received the help.
