Does henna work similarly to a plant-based protein treatment? What are the benefits of protein vs. henna?

I wanna know this too! I've come back to the realization that my hair loves protein (I cant believe that I stop doing this) after I use Motions CPR overnight. I just might need to use henna regularly.

For me, it feels like a light protein treatment. It makes my hair feel thicker as well.

Everyone is going to have a different experience and opinion of course but the primary difference that I have noticed is that I reap the strengthening benefits of henna with long term use over time, and the strengthening benefits that I receive from a protein treatment are immediate. I henna once per month, use a light protein once per month, and use a heavier protein once per month, so henna does not replace protein for me!

ITA, I still use AO GPB condition for added protein in between henna treatments, which I do every 2-3 months to maintain my color.

Henna can feel like a protein treatment but it's not. It does give strength, elasticity and shine but it's not protein. I still use MegaTek, but even still it doesn't make my hair feel as strong as a henna treatment

Great - thanks for this.

I've used henna for years. I don't use much protein except for the small amounts in some regular conditioners and occasional experiments with other veggie protein treatments. Because I use henna I haven't had a need for protein conditioners. If you don't use henna or don't use it very often then you should use protein for deep conditioning.

samanthathebrave - I'm relaxed and my hair doesn't generally like protein, but it handles henna very well. The results are similar. I henna once or twice a month. I use AO GPB if I don't want to henna.
