Especially the Shikakai. For some reason, it acts like a protein treatment with my hair. My hair feels very strong. Does anyone forgo typical protein trtmts. for shikakai or henna?

I have replaced Aphogee with henna/amla or shikakai treatments monthly. Aphogee was just toooo much protein. My hair likes henna, amla and shikakai.

That's a good question that was addressed in another thread sometime ago.

My hair responds similiar to yours with the henna/shikakai in that I rarely need a protein treatment. I can't say that it removes the need for them but it has greatly reduced MY need for them. Another factor to consider as well is how often you're doing the treatments. I use shikakai (and amla) powder to wash my hair (twice a week, prepooing w/coconut oil) and I also use in it combination with henna and other indian powders for a conditioning treatment bi weekly.

Using this regimen works VERY WELL for MY hair, it's strong, moisturized, supple and very healthy.

When I used henna sporadically, I had to do more frequent protein/moisturizing treatments. But then everyone's hair is different. I say listen to what your is 'saying'. A lot of ladies have responded that they still needed to do protein treatments periodically.

When I do them often - like every 2 weeks or more, I don't have to use protein as much, but after about 3 months of that I needed some protein. But nothing as strong as the Aphogee (Maybe the Keratin one, but not the other).

But when I stopped doing my treatments, I noticed that I started to see a need for more protein.
