How do you wear your hair in & out of the water?

Hi ladies :) I went to the beach yesterday and wore my hair in a loose side braid. It was cute but my new growth was pretty poofy (I am almost 4 mo post now, hopefully stretching until Sept!). That wasn't as bad as what my hair looked like when I got out of the water. The salt was so drying and my new growth went into poofiness overdrive !

How do you style your hair when you get out of the water (if you can't cleanse/cowash right away)? What about beforehand?

I went to the beach two weeks ago, and I am actually transitioning and have 6 months worth of new growth.

When I was done in the water, I put my hair in a top bun and I tied up my edges with a scarf I brought along.

This is what this style looks like:

Got the job done but I am curious to see how others wear their hair.

Sea water can be pretty drying for the hair. A month or so ago, on the website "long hair community" I learned that the best thing to do before going for a swim in the sea is to saturate your hair with fresh water and/or conditioner so that your already saturated hair doesn't absorb the sea water. So when you get out of the water, you can let your hair dry naturaly. Your new growth shouldn't be too bad after that.

I hope that helps:)

Thats strange....i went to the beach a few months ago and played in the waves...the ocean water made my hair feel plush and soft. It also defined my curls!

sweetTome1 Beautiful! Looks like I need to invest in a few scarves. Where do you buy yours?

I read somewhere on this site that sea salt benefits some people's strands...I don't think I'm one of those people! :nono:

I'm at the beach all the time (I live in Puerto Rico) and my hair is usually in a puff, bun or banana clip pony. The salt water doesn't really effect my hair negatively. I have noticed that my curls are more defined when I get splashed or dunked in the water.

I am at the beach all the time. I just wear it out. when I am ready to leave the beach I tie a silk scarf around the top.

If I have time I CO wash my hair prior. I leave an extra helping of conditioner in it and let it air dry either being out, a bun or a single braid. When I go in the water, the conditioner serves as a barrier for my strands. Than before I leave I wash it all out. My hair feels good. :)

I soak my hair in shea butter and out it in a bun. I top it off with a little heat protectant if I'm going to be outside, but not in the water.
