$$$: How Do You View Money?

Spender? Saver?
Is having a certain type of "lifestyle" important to you?
Do you think the Bible has anything to say about your personal spending habits?

Matthew 22:21 (New King James Version)
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

God gets his first, then bills, then save, then a lil to spend....in that order.

I am both. Spender/Saver. I learned to manage money when I was a teenager so I've never had financial issues, thank you Jesus. My momma taught me well. Saving is good but you cant take it with you so enjoy it a little bit. I typically live below my means however I live a comfortable life. The more money I get, the tighter I get. I dont know why, I just have this restraint in me to spend money needlessly. I make sure I have all my needs, I get alot of my wants, and the rest just sits. I used to believe in investing but we can all see the financial system of the world isnt very stable. I trust God to supply my needs now.

I have a budget I pull out every week when I get paid. God gets his first, 10% plus a lil more if I feel compelled. I pay ALL of my bills on time according to my budget schedule. I dont play the bill collectors mess. Whatever is left I save. I dont change in size significantly so my clothes and shoes have accumulated over the years so I dont shop much either.

I have ONE credit card and I maintain the debt ratio below 30%. If I go above, my savings become addition credit payments. I always pay way more then the minimum balance. Thats how the CC companies get you with interest. This has sent my credit score up up up. My mother also has me do little things here and there that has helped my credit score.

I have found the key for me is knowing when to spend and when to save and simply living below your means.

I am a saver.
Lifestyles are vanity. I want a modest living.
The Bible has 2350 verses on money, spending, what not to do with money and what you should do with money and the things you possess. You should consider researching Crown Financial Ministries. www.crown.org This is a Biblical based financial coarse. Jesus has a lot to say about finances. He use parables to break it down.

I am a thither. To me, that is the most important thing. I love nice stuff and a nice lifestyle. I dont think that there is anything wrong with having a nice car, nice house, fancy stuff if you can afford it, as long as God gets what's his first, and to me that is the tithe.
Jesus was not walking around a poor man. He had a treasurer. Judas. A poor man can not afford to have a treasurer!

I have never thought of this fact before. This definitely warrants further research.

Actually, I'm a big fan of Crown Financial Ministries and have listened to them for almost 10 years now. They have great insight, and the founder Larry Burkett (now deceased), predicted the current economic crisis when it was only the 1990s.

I use to want to have all the latest and greatest, because I had friends that have the latess and the greatest and it was killing me. I make more money then they do but I have a family and they do not, I have many bills and they do not except for recent bills. I remember I brought a coach bag, an outift a new coat to go see the color purple in New York, then we had to pay for parking. Dinner and other events and my friends wore fur coats so all that money I spent to be "in" didn't matter, those fur coats put my new leather jacket to shame and my mear 500 dollars bag to a dollar store bag. then we ate out and they order everything on the menu they wanted and I had water and a chicken salad and I felt broke and that was 40 dollars. I was so glad that happen. It opened my eyes, What am I trying to be like them for. I have a family that loves me and thats all I really need. I can put my money to better use. They didn't even notice me. So what was the point of that. so I spend my money wisely and I save for something great to do with my family. It use to mean a lot to me now its just money. I tithe and I am working towards paying off all my debt so I can be a blessing to someone else.

I like to think of myself as progressing towards being balanced in this area of life too. I haven't arrived-I'm still pressing:0 . I like crown.org but I am also a huge Dave Ramsey stan. He also teaches biblical based lessons on what to do and what not to do w/ money. I am more of a giver than a spender or a saver so I have to pray to stay in check cause I naturally like helping ppl.

I'm both a 'Saver and a Spender'. But our spending is mostly 'Giving'. :yep:

As for a certain lifestyle... Hmmmmmmmmm...

Okay, I like nice things, but I will not go broke just to have them. :nono: I do not have to have 'labels' to feel important or satisfied.

I take advantage of sales, specials, clearance items, and consignment boutiques. So if I happen to have a 'Vera Wang' or whaever else has a 'lable', you can be sure I did not pay full price. The only reason, I have a full closet is because God has blessed me with one and has given me 'Favour in the Market Place'... a prayer of praise that my family praises God for each day. I also take very good care of my clothing and other personal belongings.

As I'm writing this response, I have to admit that I do live a certain lifestyle. :yep: It Healthy Eating. :yep:

I tend to spend more money on 'Heatlhy' foods and supplements than anything else. I frequent Health Food stores and websites.

Organic costs more, so if I lay claim to a certain lifestyle, then it would defintitely be applied to my eating habits which is mostly vegetarian and anything healthy that you could name. It costs more to live this way, but it's better and I love it and my family loves it too. :yep:

I hope my post makes sense; I'm at my desk multi-tasking.

Love and blessings to each of you... :blowkiss:

I'm a spender. I actually have a spending addiction so I have to be careful. I also have a problem with finance period. I'm responsible to get the normal bills like Rent and Car note and pay on time but I seriously abnormal when it comes to money and saving it and being completely responsible.

I'm now responsible enough to know not to go get a coach bag if I can't pay my car insurance or to downgrade on cable if funds are really tight. I'm also researching to lower some of my bills and Lord willing that I receive a tax refund is going to paying off some medical bills. (Adulthood bites sometimes but it is a good feeling when you have paid off something)

This month, I made a goal to not over spend, learn to tithe (i'll admit this is something that confuses me) and actually build up my savings acct.

Thus far, I'm doing ok but I could have let some stuff go.
