How do you use serum???

I've seen some posts about serums and how they leave your hair smooth and shiny, and they seem like a better alternative to lots of heavy oils, but I've never used them. I would like to try, but I don't know how.

How do you use serums?? Which ones would you recommend?

I do it several ways.

1. I apply my leave-in and moisturizer and let my hair airdry. After my hair is airdried, I put my serum on each piece before I flatiron.

Then while my hair is still warm, I put a little more on.

Not all of them are good the way I do it because they are too wet or something and start to sizzle. I have several that are perfect for this method.

2. After moisturizing my wet hair, I apply the serum and airdry or blowdry. Then I flatiron. Sometimes, I apply a little more serum before flatironing if I have missed a few spots.

3. A little on daily for shine sometimes, too. I only like ones with moisturizing ingredients for this.

I use Redken's Heat Glide, NTM Shine Serum, and Garnier Fructis Serum.

I use the Redken while heat styling, and the NTM for daily moisturizing. The Garnier Fructis I leave in my office for emergencies. It's okay, but I don't think I will repurchase.

The Redken Heat Glide is GREAT for heat styling, in my opinion!!! Smells nice, too.

I use it when I straighten my hair, after flat ironing, to stop it frizzing out.
I use IC Fantasia Frizz Buster.

I use my has a heat protectant before flat ironing. (Aveda Brilliant Serum)

I also use mines on my wet hair right before I put on my satin scarf to airdry, after I style. It makes my hair so smooth and silky without frizzies and makes it laydown like gel  without that hard or flaky look! I will NEVER stop doing this!

Jasmin told me to use it to get some tangles out also and that worked as well!

Coming from a PJ to another. Go to Aveda and get (free) samples first! They will give you how much you need girl!

I'm too broke to have started a thread that would make me wanna buy something...

But maybe I can try the Fantasia, you know, as an end-of-the-semester gift to myself... and Aveda has free samples... :look:

From what I learned from MizaniMami and others, I use Aveda Brilliant Emollient serum.

I use it on my wet hair after my leave-in, just prior to airdrying in a rollerset and just a few drops on my dried hair each day for shine and no frizz. I love it!!

Hmm, I didn't know Aveda gives out free samples.

hmm, u ladies seems to have success with serum when your hair is wet...i did, until it was just too much prods for my wet hair.

i never really use serum unless i use heat. i use Fantasia serum for coloured hair BUT I AM EYEING UP THE OLIVE OIL ONE AS SOON AS I SAW IT in sophisticate i said: "oooooooooh i'm buying that"

I use the Redken Heat Glide and it works very well. Several years ago, I used serums exclusively (no oil of any kind) and I actually liked the way my hair was better back then. Nowadays I have that dern color that makes my hair 'hay like' so I have to use oil.:ohwell: I use it before I blow dry and again before I flat iron. I love the way it makes my hair feel.
