I think I'm ultra-paranoid. Reading all of this info about hair has convinced me that my hair is more fragile then really expensive china. Do hairpins in your buns cause your hair ends to break. Any info would be helpful. Also other protective styles would be nice as I am REALLY trying to grow my hair to mbl from apl.

I secure my buns with an elastic. It's one of those black ones that I got at Dollar General. So far, I don't have alot of split ends or breakage.:yep:

No pins here. I wrap my hair around a donut that I made from a sock(cut the foot out and roll into donut), then I use ouchless bands to secure hair around the donut and then wrap loose ends with this stretchy band. I have a "tutorial" on how I do this in my fotki. It's simple and ouchless!

Wow thanks for all of the responses. So don't use the regular long black hair pins or bobby pins?

I don't like them - the metal edges are too sharp (in my mind) and the little rubber tip things lift up and tend to catch my hair. I prefer the Good Hair Days pins.... :yep:

I use Good Hair Days pins to secure my bun.
I also use Good Hair Days pins (they're plastic). I've been using them for years, and I love them.

I do a donut bun and secure with a band.
I do a braided bun and just roll up the braid into itself. Hard to explain, but it stays put.

This is the way I've done mine for years. Works like a charm...

At this point, i twist my hair around itself into a bun and then add a scrunchie. I was doing the elastic thang and i ALWAYS made it too tight which resulted in breakage.

I bought these a few months ago to secure my buns and my hair won't stay in place. These pins glide out and my buns come undone :( Could it be that I am not using the correctly?
