What is your method of moisturizing and sealing?

If I want to stretch out my relaxer and avoid breakage. Sectioning and Parting when moisturizing will help greatly.:yep:

My new growth in the middle is always sooooo dry. I always just slap moisturizer on the top of my hair and smooth into a bun.

Same here! I am 14 weeks post and managing THREE textures of hair. I was going crazy because my NG was so dry and my hair has been tangling. I see now that I have not been moisturizing adequately. A quarter sized amt. of moisturizer slapped on the middle of my hair does nothing for to tame my NG.

I rollerset my hair most times when I cowash....After taking the rollers out, I apply Lisa Akbari moisturizer to each curl. After I've done each curl, I put coconut oil in my hand and glide it over my entire head of hair. My curls are soft and shiny afterwards.

I section my hair and apply moisturizer mixed with oil at least 4 times a week. I make sure I apply some of the moisturizer to the ends first and comb slowly through the hair.

When I first get a relaxer I would just run my fingers through my hair with a moisturizer. Now that I'm 23 weeks post I moisturize and seal in sections. That is the only way to make sure my ng is moisturized.

I am the total opposite. When I relax I section my hair. The more ng the less manipulating I do. By the time I am 10 weeks I don't section at all.

It depends on how much time I have, but usually since I don't have much time I just run my hands through my hair. I do notice I get better curl definition when I part it and comb it through.

So true, I never knew this...this mosituizing thread would have saved so much of my hair in the beginning of my transition:ohwell: Better late than never. My NG used to be SO thick that I absolutely needed to moisturize every single night - possibly twice a day but I didn't understand the science - I was hair ignorant:nono:

I'm learning so much to this site and will start to moisturize my half natural- half relaxed head nightly and seal with oil. I'm getting so many ideas of the types of moisturizer I can use. Please keep educating us ladies!

When i had long hair i did part my hair in two portions and then applyed. Now that my hair is short y just apply it with my fingers.

I moisturize and seal in small sections because I have thick hair. If I only ran my hands over my hair, the majority of it wouldn't get product.

I moisturize with condish and then after that, put a little leave in, (not rinsing out my condish), and then I put castor oil on my scalp and spread throughout my hair focusing on ends.. I especially pat my ends with oil. Doing this faithfully, I have not had split ends since January... A ten month stretch !!! It's quite awesome! I usually have splits all over the place. And actually January was the last time I cut my hair or needed to. I always have uncontrollable splits, but I stopped being lazy and incorporated this in my regimen and now I have no splits whatsoever! So stick with it and it will pay off!

I part in half then three section on each side...moisturize then seal.

Then i hold em all together and seal the ends esp. bun and tie with scarf

Since I am doing braidouts I just apply a dallop of moisturizer to my hair then put leave-in and then part and braid hair. When finish braiding I go back and moisturize not only the parted areas (not my scalp) but I put my moisturizer along/on the braid itself and then seal the end of my braids.

I second this! I've tried the "run through with fingers" method and it does not work :ohwell:when I wear my hair air dried. It works wonderfully when I have my hair straight though.

I make 2 section in the front,2 in the middle and 1 in the back. I then seperate and spray each section (one at a time) with a liquid leave in then use Ors creamy moisturizer and seal with oil.

This way works alot better for me now rather than use rubbing moisturizer through my hair and callling it a day.

I use castor oil and I put a few drops into my hands and I rub it all over my hair. Then I flip my head over and do the under side of my locs. Pull my hair into a pony with my hand, and I get the ends. Then I rub it into the middle locs. I don't try to "grease" my scalp. The oils that my scalp makes should be fine enough to oil on its own. I will give my scalp a scalp massage to distribute the scalp oils all over sometimes.

Depends on NG. Freshly relaxed - I use fingers. As the NG comes in, I section with fingers and apply to NG.

If it is curly I use activatior or lotion moisturizer, and run fingers through my hair. I seal the last 2 inches with coconut oil.
If it is flat ironed, I use a lotion moisturizer, and finger section and finger comb through out. I seal the ends with a lighter oil (olive oil or some type of light grease). Then bun it, braid out, or wrap it.
