How do you ladies feel about this?

Here is the deal, last week I called my beautician to put an appointment for a relaxer for tomorrow. First, I asked her if she had the phytospecific relaxer (she said no of course). She told me that I could order it and come in with it. So, I decided to call her a couple of minutes ago to remind her about the appointment. I also decided to ask her how much it could cost me now that I am bringing my own relaxer/treatment and everything else in. She told me that she would still charge me the $50 that she usually charges when people come in to get a relaxer and all that. I don't know what to do right now, I really dont want to pay $50 when I just spent $60 on the relaxer itself. What would you have done in this sitaution? Please let me know I am a little upset right now.

What kind of relaxer does she use? Is the cost comparable? If she uses a cheap relaxer, she may not be factoring in much cost of product in her charge, so you're paying mostly for service. Did you ask her why the cost is the same if you're supplying your own products?

I would be annoyed, but I stopped going to stylist long ago because... well, because of a lot of very negative reasons and bad experiences.

I don't see the problem. I feel like hair dressers prices are mostly based on the service they are doing, not the products they use to do it. It would be nice for her to take a few dollars off, but I understand why she didn't. If she's great at doing relaxers then I'd keep her.

I use phyto too so I feel your pain. However I self relax. Maybe cause I'm in California but $50 doesn't seem like alot for a relaxer, honestly I wouldn't charge less that that to do it even if you brought your own. What should she charge $30, $40? I wouldn't. It's still the same amount of work.

there has to be at least one of Nikos cousins in your area who could safely apply your relaxer. next time, have your beautician order it herself.

Honestly, I do not know what kind of relaxers she uses. I only got a relaxer once before from her, at that point I did not care about the kind of relaxer she put in my hair (pre lhcf) now I am going to stick to one specific relaxer

Yeah you are right but I always thought they make you pay according to what type of relaxer you want in your hair and if you bought it yourself.

I tried to call her back to ask her a couple of questions she did not answer her phone. But I called the Dominicans that I used to go before her and they told me it would cost me less. So, I might go to them instead.

My old stylist would take $10 off the price, if you brought in your own relaxer.

Honestly, I don't trust myself to put it in, so if I were in your situation I'd probably pay.

If you don't want to do it yourself, and you don't have anyone else you trust, I don't see any other solution then to go to your stylist.

HTH

Is there a reason why you stopped going to the dominicans before? If its not over a bad experience, then I would go to them.:yep:

I think you should go to the place that is most in line with your hair goals. IMO, it's not worth it to pay less money for someone to jack your hair up.

Yes, I have seen this with most stylist. They charge you for the service, not for the relaxer. I have the same problem. I use Phyto too, so I do know what you mean. I just try to keep perfecting it because I do not want to pay the extra for a stylist to put it in.

That is so true but the only reason I stopped going to the Dominicans is because they were using too much heat on my hair. Nothing major I'll just ask them to slow it down. Plus I am only going to go to them for a relaxer everything else I do by myself. Thanks for the advice

I would be upset. If you had to supply your own relaxer she should take off at least $10. I feel like she is trying to play you. I would learn how to do it myself or go to the dominicans, she would not get a dime from me.

SL, how about fewer appointments by stretching your relaxer to absord some of the cost...does this makes sense?

I would just self relax. It sucks that she would charge you the regular price. You could always try to find someone else who would be more reasonable.

You as the customer have a right to ask what that $50 pays for. And if she doesn't know, then ask if she has a manager or boss that you can speak to. Perhaps a price negotiation could be made on account that you brought your own relaxer.

I sure wouldn't let her do my hair after I asked for her boss or manager. Lol
She would probably walk out of there with relaxer burns or a lot less hair. Some people can be devious when you go over their head to their bosses.

Actually I have been stretching I am like 16 weeks post and I am relaxing mostly because my birthday is in a couple of days. This is like the second time I am going to go to her ever since February.
