Hi everyone!

Just curious: how do you, personally, decide when it's worth experimenting with a new product/technique, and when to stick with something that you already know works fine?

I read the reviews, look at the ingredients (and price) and see if it's something I think will agree with my hair, fit into my current regimen etc.....

Is it something I need to address a current issue: i.e. shedding, breakage, porosity, protein, moisture, dryness....etc....

So, I basically do some upfront research before I decide to take the plunge. To see if it is something that fits in to my Hair Goals.

What about you? @CluelessJL

I put my foot down when the last bandwagon product(s) didn't work. I just reminded myself that I have a stash of products that work fine, no need to add to it. That was late Spring or early Summer. Haven't used a recommended product since. Now to me this is different from having a wishlist of prods I've always wanted to try, just because. I tried the last item on my wishlist (Terressentials clay washes) and LOVE it.

I agree with what IdareT'shair says. In addition, after researching a whole heap and being consistent, I have a structured regimen for when I wear my hair out, and when I am protective styling with wigs. I tend to want to dabble with something or try something new only if my hair needs something that my product or regimen isn't bringing.

Thanks for the replies!

@IDareT'sHair I'd say I'm tempted to keep experimenting until I find a staple product in each 'category' of product - problem is that at the moment that's just about everything for me as I'm still pretty new to this! But at the same time I'm wary of having a set back from trying too much. That's why I wondered how other people are deciding when it's worth it :)

I only experiment when I have extra money, time and patience.
Other than that I stick with what I know works. I do read reviews before I try new things just to be on the safe side.
