How do you braid in a beehive pattern?

I know how to cornrow but I just can't figure out how to cornrow in a beehive pattern on my own head. Well anybody's head. Does anyone have some tips for me?

planning on putting in a weave?

No, I'm just trying to find a way for my laces to lay flatter. I have been two strand twisting my hair in small twists but with my straight wigs it makes my head look bigger than what it is. Which might not be that bad since I have a little head anyways but yeah.....

How I do it:

Make a part at your right ear lobe and start braiding in a clockwise direction. I'm right handed, so that might influence my direction but you can start on the other side if that's easier. Then you just keep spiraling toward the center. Use clips to help hold your braid in place so you can reestablish your grip in the curves. You keep the hair that you're not braiding in a bunch (clip, scrunchy, braid, etc) and take out just enough for each row. Mine is a modified beehive coz I don't spiral the entire head. I do two or three horizontal rows separately in the nape area after I'm done with the beehive.

I'm gonna watch the above video. I'm getting my flat twisting down. How long can you keep it flat twisted @ladysaraii

Nasdaq_Diva The first 2 lasted about 2 weeks, my last one lasted 5 weeks before I took it down. I was more careful with that one too, when I washed it, I put a mesh wig cap on so that it wouldn't get damaged.

I owe you a picture too! I'm sorry, I'll add one as soon as I locate my camera.

Are any of you ladies who do the beehive method have thin hair? I tried once and I felt like I was going to damage my hair bc its so thin.

Here are the pics from my 2nd beehive. Don't judge me too harshly

Umm I start twisting above my left ear and I twist in a clockwise pattern. So I divide the hair, twist around and when it ends, I part the next bit and keep going

Get a mirror to sit in front of and try it out. i promise that it's way easier than it looks

@GoddessMaker, do you pull your hair hard when you cornrow? I have fine hair (not thin) and had the beehive done on my head years ago when I got a weave. I'm not sure why it would damage your hair. It's just like doing cornrows. IMO only damage would happen if the one doing it was rough and did it too tight.

Nonie I think it may be a bit hard when I grip my hair to braid since it's so fine.

Aah... I think with practice, you can learn to put the firmness on the braid without pulling so much at your scalp. Maybe try to do a "raised" (floppy) braid but make sure the rope is firm till you get the knack of braiding firmly without it being tight.
