Cornrow and braid help, please.

If there is anyone who can braid and cornrow can you please give me some tips? You tube does have some videos on cornrows, but I just can't seem to grasp how they start them. Please help me with any technique you can.

I grab a nice "piece" of hair and then divide that into three. I twist two pieces together and then add the third in alternating a different piece every time. That's hard to visualize. I'm in the middle of something at work but maybe someone with more time can be more graphic to help you.
