How Do I Stop Thinking About My Hair?

You aren't the only one. I used to do length checks a lot because my crown was slow to grow and my hair was at an awkward length...no longer a twa but not long. It wasn't until I made a conscious effort to stop checking that I noticed growth. Now I'm not so obsessed.

I doubt I will ever be able to keep my fingers out of it, though. I love the feel of my fractals.
 
I think we all get like this at some point. I remember when I first started my journey all I could do was think about my hair and length and how badly I wanted it to get longer. It stressed me out and caused thinning Haha so that was super counterproductive.

I don't have the patience for protective styling so when I got like that I would visit other forums on the board and I would try to get a new hobby for a while. Start a project or something that will distract you. That's what I did and it worked. I taught myself how to crochet. Lol.

P.S. I'm still obsessed jut not as obsessed.

I know the feeling. Since becoming natural I cant stop touching my hair! I play with the coils and stretch them out to see how long my hair is. I just have to remember that keeping my hands off my hair will help it grow. A protective style like braids can help you because you wont be able to get to your hair as easily and I think its nice to see the results after they've been in for a couple of months.

@jennifer30, no I don't think of my hair like that any more. I use too though. I basically stopped watching the pot and just let it boil and length came. I never neglected my regimen even though I was no longer tracking every second of growth. Hair grows about 1/2" per month so you won't see much change on a daily basis. Assuming you're able to retain much of what you've grown, you should see some progress after two or three months.

Nothing wrong with being passionate about your hair. Believe me there will come a time when you have your hair regimen down, reach your heart's desired length and everything becomes so normal it's like breathing. So have fun and enjoy the ride!

Goodreads and booktubers and EVERYTHING. :yep:

I challenge myself to read bigger books and to read faster and also my goal is to read more meaningful literature this year especially as far as history and world events. I set my goal to read at least 30 books this year.

Which reminds me...I think I want a Barnes and Noble membership :)

Omg, same here! lol. I've been having the same problems up until last week when I forced myself to stop looking in the mirror at my hair and go back to what I used to do to make it grow fast. Which was not caring and moisturizing.
 
I agree with @KammyGirl, what I did was get a little distracted. I started a new obsession, exercise and skin care. It worked wonders for a long while, something like a whole year.

I stayed in the fitness and skin forums and never came in the hair forum. Turned out that all the exercising was actually helping not only my body, but my hair also.

Believe me, it works. So you might want to try that for a while and see what happens.
 
I've been obsessed with length since kindergarten years that will never change but what I've decided to do was change my mindset and attitude. I committed to PS and married my long time best friend again (wigs). Though I'm not fully natural (attempting to transition till I become tired) I've decided to just leave my hair alone and it is thriving. Monday made 24 weeks since my last relaxer and it feels great to just throw on a $10 wig and go. I moisturize, pop my pills and leave Elle alone because she's too delicate to bother with daily/styling. It works!!!
 
The busier your life becomes the less you worry about it. Also, the more you get set in a hair routine that works.

That's one of the reasons I don't peruse the hair section as much, I've already seen the lengths I was able to get to the first time around. So now I've moved on to other goals and my hair just stays in either buns or under wigs.
