How confident are you in terms of self relaxing?

I'm about 70-85% confident. Mainly because I've never had my hair professionally relaxed. Either I did it or my cousin did. Actually, I think she only did the first one. But I'd feel less confident about a professional doing it because I think they wouldn't take the time and care I would.

I am about 70% confident...I have had relaxers done professionally and I know I am doing a much better job than any other stylist I have ever had. All of my past stylist were guilty or overlapping, not neutralizing, not basing, not protecting the previously relaxed strands, not timing properly, not utilizing the protein step, and just assuming because I am a 4-B the relaxer must stay on until it burns:mad:

I feel so empowered because I know that I am doing a better job than any stylist from my past. I think I will be up to 80% the next time around because I plan to use a nozzle tip bottle to apply the relaxer only to my roots.

:D

I am almost 100% confident that I will under-process...I am sure that I can do it but, once I put the chemicals in, I start to worry about overprocessing. I can deal with a little wavy left at the roots a whole lot better than I can deal with overprocessing my hair off of my head....

I think I read a thread once that suggested you should underprocess a little because overlapping is almost a given (even by the most skilled professional, I guess, unless you have inches and inches of new growth) and that way you would only overlap on the part that was underprocessed, anyway, thereby correcting it.

Am I making sense or am I rambling because I'm sick and tired of all this work on my desk?

I'm very confident with relaxing my own hair, I know what I want to see happen with my hair. I know how long it take the relax different portions of my hair. I know that the hair at the crown and at the very back of my head is a different texture that the rest. With the crown I need to process that longer while the back needs basicly needs no relaxer.

I would say that I'm 95% confident with relaxing my own hair.

I'm maybe 30-40% confident? I know I won't over process. But I've not perfected the technique of speed.... if I rush --- my parts are too big and I miss spots if I take care to section properly I lose speed. I'm still working on it. I think in the long run I do a better job than the salons ($100) for touch-ups that are overprocessed. :perplexed

I am about 20%-30% confident, I self-relaxed about 5 wks ago and I was soo nervous, It took awhile but I did a good job. I am not sure If I want to self-relax or go to a salon next time.

I going to say 100%, because i've been doing them for several years and i don't trust anyone else to do them for me. I know my hair better than anyone else so its easy for me to do my own relaxer. It just takes the right preparation.

Interesting idea! Anybody else ever tried this technique? I've just always used an applicator brush.

Oh, and to stay OT, I'm about 75% confident self relaxing. I did my own for awhile throughout high school and college, but I've been having them done professionally the last 4-5 years. And the last time, my stylist overprocessed me and she almost never bases me (though my scalp rarely burns). Seriously, WTH???:wallbash: I'm DEFINITELY self relaxing for my next touch up. At least if it comes out screwed up, I can only blame myself. And I won't be paying $100 for a salon visit!

i am about 80% confident with self relaxing...this time last year i was 50% reason: since I found the hair boards I've learned alot about relaxing in halves, protein treatments prior and 1 week after & light treatment during, deep conditioning etc etc.

Now I get much better results...and less to almost no breakage. I'm just recovering from past breakage due to no knowledge.

You're not rambling. I remember that thread!!
:p

I am 60% confident. Even though I base my hair, sometimes I feel strong tingle on the scalp. Also my hairline seems thin and I don't know if I should be relaxing that area at all. It always takes me forever to finish the application leaving me hardly any time for smoothing. And I am terrified that I will overlap.

I'm 85-90% confident about self-relaxing. I underprocess sometimes but that's ok for me. If I underprocess a certain area, I correct it the next time around.

I have more confidence in myself after I had a few incidents with others.

I am 100% that there will be under-processing and I am not about to sabotage my progress by skimping out on a good relaxer. My stylist is completely competent, and I consider the $65 every six months as piece of mind.

I know my limitations and I am not self relaxing ever again...

I am about 100% confident. I have always done my relaxers myself and I wouldn't know how to act if someone else attempted to do it for me. Relaxing is one of the FEW things I don't worry about when it comes to my hair.

I'm about 95%. Because I've relaxed my hair WRONG for over 15 years and not one hair of my head has fallen out. lol But now that I know the correct way to do it. I now think I at about 98%!

I'm 100% confident when self-relaxing. I use the same routine, relaxer and time (with a timer). I know from past experience that I do a much better job than most professionals because I pay more attention to what I'm doing and I care the most about my hair.

This is good! With time and practice, this is where I will be. I'm 75% right now.

Touch-ups cost $100.00 ?? I am definately down for the self relaxing. I really like the idea of using a quirt bottle for touch ups, that's pure genuis!

I am about 80% when I use the right relaxer, otherwise I underprocess. I cannot tell how long to leave it in with most relaxers.

Using one that i know works makes me feel more confident.

But, I still get a little nervous when I relax the back areas. I am always afraid that I apply too much back there.

What she said.
Right now I'm natural but I keep thinking when I take my braids out and if my hair is longer then it has ever been it the past, will i relax my hair again. I'm kinda getting scared.
