HOW CAN I FULLY RESTORE MY HAIRLINE

Hello Hair aficionados :)

Thanks to all the great threads from all of you, my hair had been growing in long and strong. This is my 1st time posting a tread because I really need advice.

Due to excess braiding for many years past, my hairline has suffered tremendously - and is still very thin and underwhelming. I must admit that it is much better since the last horrible twist experience that left me with almost no edges!

The left side of the 1st photo is what it looked like immediately after last braids came out (yikes!) The right side of the pic is what is looked like 4 months into trying to grow it all back.

It was hard, but with the use of Nioxin follicle booster and wild growth hair oil; it started growing back. But though i still continue to oil and massage it; it just won't completely fill in! The growth seems as if it's come to a complete

I'm so afraid I permanently damaged my follicles :( . Over the last month I've added black Jamaican castor oil externally - and MSM 1500mg, biotin 5000mcg and vitamin E internally. (I had to discontinue the Biotin because it immediately caused me to breakout into at least 8 major pimples, and I normally get 0-1 pimple a YEAR!)

The second photo is of my hairline at present. It has not changed much since the initial four months - and still has much longer to go before it is 'normal' again.

This week, I just began using LiquidGold Oil on my scalp, drinking at least 4-8 glasses of water a day, and doing the inversion method as well to see if that can stimulate hairline growth. I will give my new additions a chance to work, but if they don't - then I'm all out of ideas.

I am diligent with my hair routine. I wash with sulfate free shampoo, protein treat/deep condition my hair regularly and keep it well moisturized when it is under my weave (my real hair is out in the front). I always make sure my weaves aren't to tight, that my silk hair wrap isn't too constricting at bedtime. I only use heat 1 time every 6 weeks and only relax my hair 1-2 times per year.

The rest of my hair is really growing well and I know that with LHCF members help I'll reach bra strap length/waist length in no time. But what's the point of long hair when you have missing or raggedy hair edges.

I would go see a dermatologist that specializes in hair or a Trichologist (sp?) You need medical advice. They can prescribe something to get those follicles going again if it's possible. But u need stronger than over the counter remedies I would also recommend adding a stimulating essential oil to your topical treatments like peppermint, sage and tea tree

Eta__if you look in my fotki in my siggy, I have my journal from when my edges fell out and I was able to grow them back with care. Good luck!

First of all, let me say I've seen worse. Your hair line will come back. I promise.

Second, you still have hair in your edges. They are not completely bald. That's why I say keep hope alive. The only thing that will help you is time and low manipulation. The hairs will grow but they need time. Ideally you would find a style that let the edges go wild and free until they grow back..

I agree with the above advice. That much growth in 4 months is a good sign that your edges will recover. I would also recommend not relaxing those areas if at all possible until you have some significant recovery.

I am in exactly the same position as you.

I had tried JBCO in the past and it didn't do anything for me, but I then started using Megatek mixed with some ordinary Cator oil, it started filling in then it slowed down again.

My morning teabag on my sides stimulated it into speeding up again.
I now have one side filling in quicker than the other. My left has a long way to go, but it is getting there. I have stopped weaves at the moment, as I think it contributed somehow to my side's decline (plus bad hair practices) I have noticed that since I have been watering (i.e. Water only rinsing, or conditioner washing) every other day and sometimes everyday my sides have come faster.
Patience is the key, you will get there as there is hair growing in there.

You are doing a great job. Besides what's already recommended, I say ditch night caps and scarves. Instead, get satin or silk pillowcases

The scarves and bonnets rub on that sensitive area all night and may contribute to thinness. It did for me. My edges are recovering nicely.

I'm sorry that this happened to you but I have experienced something similar with my nape from wearing weaves and I had a bald spot the size of a penny at the top of my head and my edges were also thinned out. JBCO did work for me and was the only thing I used to grow both out. During that time of using JBCO to grow out my edges, nape, and bald spot, I did not get a relaxer at all. Also, I didn't wear weaves anywhere near my edges, the bald spot, or nape. I'm not sure if you're currently wearing your hair like the styles in the first pic, but if u are I would recommend u to not because that is still too close to your thinning edges. Also, I will be honest with u and say that it took at least 3 months for me to notice a difference from the jbco with using it every other day. Being consistent is the hardest part.

Thank you KrissyHair. I needed the motivation :) I so very much hope you are right. I'm trying my best to use low manipulation on my edges.

Thank you Havilland. I will definitely see a specialist if the growth of my edges continue to slow.

Thank you Lami. Thank you so much for your advice. The last time I relaxed my hair was January and I intend to NOT relax until my hairline makes more progress.

I would say its good to have company, Kentmane but not in this :) However, it's good to have someone who understands what I'm going through.

I've heard great things about Megatek. Maybe it may be worth a try? And also, how do you use your morning tea bag to enhance growth (never heard of that)?

I will also give that water rinsing a try as well.

I am still wearing weaves, but my stylist understands to stay away from my edges and the front of my real hair is left out.

Thanks so much.

Thank you for the encouraging words DarkJoy. I must admit that I do have a habit of tying my satin hair wrap pretty tightly. I have wondered if this may have contributed to my issues with my edges. I'm making an effort not to do this, but your suggestion of a satin pillowcase may be just what I need. Thank you.

Consistency with Scalp massages and Jamaican Black castor oil will work also i see you posted a pic of WGHO, that product my dear is a god send, continue to be consistent in what you are doing your hair line will grow back; shoot, you've already made much progress and your hair is filling in nicely.

Be Patient and consistent. HTH

Thank you for your feedback PlainJane. How often did you apply the JBCO to see results?

I am no longer wearing my hair in braids or in the weave in the first picture. However, I am still wearing a weave (like the one in my folder entitled 'Hair Weave') and I make sure to keep it away from my edges by leaving the front section of my real hair out of the weave completely.

I do not intend to relax again until my hairline is fully restored.

Sorry. I meant a silk pillowcase :)

Thank you so much PureSilver. I've been consistent so far, but my progress has slowed so
Much, so I've begun to get discouraged :(

Thanks to you and the other ladies, I'm finding my second wind again :)

I can however, benefit from doing more scalp messages. It's kind of hard with a partial sew-in, but perhaps I can be sure to just massage my edges daily with the WGHO and/or the BJCO.

Thank you for your advice PureSilver. I've been consistent up to this point but as the growth of my edges have slowed, I've become somewhat discouraged :(

But that to you ladies, I may be finding my second wind :)

I could probably benefit from more scalp massages, but that is difficult with the partial sew-in. However, Maybe I can just concentrate on massaging my edges with the WGHO or BJCO daily. Maybe that may help?

My edges were thinning for unknown reasons, likely stress. I visited the dermatologist and the first thing out of their mouth was it's likely the chemicals in your hair. Of course, why wouldn't they say that. They recommended Rogaine. I never purchased. Instead, I scalp massaged with jbco faithfully. I stopped all styles that pulled and tugged at the hair. I started relaxing my edges every other touch up vs. every touch up. My edges look much, much better than what they use too. I'm pleased with my progress.

I say go to the dermatologist to see if they have recommendations for you. I wish you all the best!

Sounds like I'm right on track with the JBCO. Are you guys applying it once or twice a day? Also, do you scalp massage once or twice a day?

Hi Angelface

When I make my morning cup of tea, instead of throwing away the tea bag I put it on my temples for a few minutes.
Tea has the ability to stimulate the scalp. I read on LHCF that the temple is one of the hardest places to grow back hair.
Well it is hard for me, the sides it's just that temple that does not like playing ball.

Wow. I've never heard of that. Thank you. Does it have to be any particular type of tea bag or would your friendly neighborhood Lipton do :) ?

I think that you should stop wearing weaves completely. Even though you are not braiding/weaving your edges, it is still tugging at your hairline and will cause it to go further back.

Philip Kingsley extreme elasticizer - I have been using it for 1 month for another reason and I am amazed at how my edges are filling in. The product is $$$$$ but worth it. I have hardly any shedding and no breakage.

Thanks for the advice SimpleWhole. I am looking into the ingredients right now...

I loss my edges as a result of reaction to indigo in 2011, jbco, and oil massaging my scalp brought back my edges.
